Gordon Brown's Labour Conference speech 2008.

What a load of empty bollocks: At times I felt truly nauseous. Brown said:

"What happened with 10p stung me because it really hurt that suddenly people felt I wasn't on the side of people on middle and modest incomes - because on the side of hard working families is the only place I've ever wanted to be. And from now on it's the only place I ever will be."
What's this "middle and modest earners" crap? It was the lowest paid that were hurt by the 10p tax fiasco - what a tosser!

"And let me be clear about the new Labour policy on crime; taking action on the causes of crime will never mean indulging those who perpetrate it. Fairness demands that we both punish and prevent."
Prisons are so full that Labour are letting out prisoners early to re-offend. The police are stuck behind desks and will not come out unless it's to arrest you for defending your family and property from thugs.
"My children aren't props - they're people."
Said the man who was introduced by his wife?

And were the BBC prompted to pan round to Miliband when Gordon said "this is no time for a novice"? More than anything, this is a budget speech with a twist - the twist being that we have no money to pay for these neck saving promises - we don't even have the money to pay for what we already have. You can click HERE to see a list of empty promises Brown made last year.

Surely the public are not so thick as to believe this chump.

2/10

Get ready for a bloodbath.

It was actually even more useless and insipid than I thought it was going to be. It was a speech you give when things are going well and you want to outline your course for the next ten years. Not the only you give when you're a dead duck, everyone hates you and the economy is deeper in shit than Mark Oaten.

    Not the *one

Yet amazingly the BBC managed to assemble a team of "floating voters" in Stafford who were impressed with this effort.

Mind you even the Radio 4 guy was embarrassed when one of the "floaters" declared "I was always going to vote Labour but this has made me even more certain".

Browns speech was the twisted outpouring of a deluded narcissist but it impressed the BBC and some MSM."Middle and modest earners" was surely a catch-all to impress a wider audience and therefore muddy the 10p tax fiasco apology.
It was all PR for zealots with the primary message being Browns indispensability.Like you I hope the public reject him.

I don't know for sure, but it's looking increasingly like NuLab has only ever used 'the poor' as hustings planks they trample all over. Once they're elected then they send the timber away to be sawdusted and recycled.

'Never indulging those who perpetrate crime'?
I truly don't know whether to laugh hysterically at that one or cry... Either Gorgon is lying through his teeth or he's certifiably delusional.

Yes he dodged saying low earners. He's still aiming at middle england's votes.

Indeed, what a load of bollocks (not your blog of course, Steve, but the PM's speech).

The man can't utter one one word of contrition. Unfortunately for him, this failing is yet another nail in his political coffin.

'Surely the public are not so thick as to believe this chump.'

No they are not. Nor are they so thick as to believe the Conservative chump, not that he has said anything remotely credible.

'Chump' is a good word to describe Grooovey Dave.

Well said. His arrogance and lack of respect for voters was shocking yesterday.

I'm curious as to what you gave the 2 points for, Steve.
