Should it make you feel any better I was French too- having said that being from the nation of Rousseau, Montesqueiu, Voltaire, de Tocqueville, Zidane, Platini, Sartre, Camus, Truffaut isn't distressing me too much.
Being associated with a country that gave 18% of the vote to Le Pen and supported Petain (though I suppose as a Brit we have the BNP) and voted for Chirac twice is more distressing- but hey the French do have cool films, successful footballers, good philosophers, fantastic cafes and Paris- I could take being French.
