Trident - The Decision

A Majority of 246 voted against the amendment to the motion to renew the Trident system.
(The amendment was to delay the decision to replace the Trident System).

A Majority of 248 voted for the motion to renew the Trident system.

The Voting on the Daily Referendum: Should we replace Trident when it goes out of service in 2024? is now closed.

The results are as follows:

Yes 42%

No 31%

Do Not Know 27%

My opinion :

1) We go ahead and start the 17 year development of the new Trident system.

The result: We have the ability to provide a deterrent to any future (unknown) threat - our children are safe.

2) We delay the development of the new Trident system.

The result: 17 years from now an unknown threat arises to which we have no deterrent - our children are in deep trouble.

The Liberals were asking for a delay. If the RN and the MOD say we need to start the development now, we should respect their professional judgement. In this day and age the way these things always overrun, we will be lucky if the project is completed in the 17 year time frame - the sooner we start the better.
