It might be an issue, but the Tories can't drop the big one on Labour: pledge to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan and only deploy the armed forces for defensive purposes...

I mean, the Tories have backed these wars, haven't they? If they knew that the armed forces were underfunded, why haven't they called for them to be brought home?

Charlie,

You are correct, the Tories did back these wars. Iraq was backed after they were given false intelligence by Tony Blair. And in the case of Afghanistan they believed it was the right thing to do. We are now stuck in both places and must stay there until it is resolved. I don't quite get your question. Why should the Tories want the troops to be brought home because they are under funded? What the Tories want and are asking for is the correct level of funding and political support to get the job done, so they can come home mission accomplished.

False intelligence or no, the Tories would have backed the war.

What is being resolved? Ensuring that both Iraq and Afghanistan have pliant client regimes who will serve the interests of US and British imperialism.

What do the Tories care for the lives of service personnel? You might be sincere, but I am afraid you must accept that the Tories would have fought both wars on the cheap had they been in power.

Charlie,

Your statements are allegations without any proof.

False intelligence or no, the Tories would have backed the war. - How do you know this?

Tories would have fought both wars on the cheap had they been in power. - Again how do you know this?

Well, I hear people like Hague say - oh, the war was right.

Look, if it wasn't Labour lying to us, It'd be the Tories. They couldn't come out and say, we need to attack Afghanistan and Iraq to ensure Western hegemony in the Middle East and give an example to other states that might pursue an independent path....

As for equiping the troops -- welfare has never been a big Tory concern, so I doubt they'd've sent Colin and Justin in to do up forces accomodation...

Look, you might like to believe things would've been different. There are those on the left who have illusions about the Labour Party doing things differently if not for Blair and Brown.
