42 day detention - The committee say NO.

More bad news for Gordon Brown. A committee of MPs and Peers have poo-pooed his call for the terror detention limit to be extended to 42 days:

"Our view is that the government has not made out its case for the need to extend pre-charge detention beyond the current limit of 28 days".

I wonder why the 42 day question has been moved to take place after the Crewe and Nantwich by-election?

What are the chances of Brown and his goons listening to, and learning from the committees' recommendations?

I blogged this morning about the new retreat by Labour over the 42-day detention plans. The backbenchers are having a field day with their incompetent leaders.

LFAT,

The rebels are calling the tune in the Labour party. The whip has no power.
