Philip Davies: To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions how much (a) his Department and (b) its agencies spent on taxis in the last financial year for which figures are available. For 228 working days that's £8879/day, or £1110/hour or £18.50/minute - that equates to almost two £10 taxi trips every single working minute. Nice to know that my taxes are not being wasted.
Mrs. McGuire: The Department's expenditure on taxis in the last financial year (2007-08) was £2,024,431. This figure includes expenditure on minicab/taxi firms and black cabs. Details of the separate payments made by the Department and its agencies could be provided only at disproportionate cost.

There are obviously only two certainties in life at the DWP - death and taxis...
John,
Brilliant.
And how much is the going rate for unemployment benefit...? THREE MINUTES' worth a week?
This is utterly unacceptable.
