Immigration: Labour acting when it is too late again.

I'm going to be away for a couple of days for my Dad's funeral up in Yorkshire (Barnsley). Thanks again to all of you who left kind words in the comments.

I'll leave you with an excellent article on Labour's handling of immigration from Iain Martin (quoting Fraser Nelson).

Why is it that the Government only acts when the horse has already bolted?

MRSA?
Economy?
Flood defences?
Armoured vehicles?
Immigration?

The list is endless...

So essentially then it seems the problem is the welfare state it’s self, as it currently exists.

Why are Brits unwilling to work? Because they are paid more to be on the dole than to do some of the jobs on offer.

Some immigrants are willing to do these jobs at low pay that it is uneconomical for the British unemployed to take. If they take the job they loose the dole. The immigrants are not stealing jobs.

Why is the UK so particularly attractive to immigrants that they don’t want to claim asylum in France but risk life and limb to reach the UK? Amongst other reasons because of the lure of ‘free’ socialised medicine, housing, etc.

Without the welfare state’s influence the UK would be less attractive to immigrants. They would be unlikely to be a drain on the public purse. They would either prosper and contribute to the economy, or fail and leave. If they committed crime then they could be deported.

In any case they would probably not be seen as a problem.
