My local Hospital is turning into a bloody Bazaar.

Ear, nose and throat
My local Hospital is turning into a bloody Bazaar. Well when I say local, I mean the one I now have to travel to seeing as my real local hospital (Haslar) is being shut down. Recently I took my little boy (Freddie) to Queen Alexandra's hospital in Cosham (Portsmouth) to have an eye exam. He had to have eye drops in, so we were sent away for half an hour to allow his pupils to dilate. Thinking we would pass the time over a coffee, the wife and I headed over to the canteen, and there in the passageway outside the canteen was what could only be described as a market stall.

I know what you are thinking, a couple of old ladies selling second hand books and knitted dolls. Well unfortunately this was nothing like that. What this was, was a middle aged Asian looking guy selling cheap watches at £6 a pop. What the bloody hell is going on? Is my local hospital so skint that they have to rent out hospital corridors to market traders. Which idiot on the trust board thought this was a good way to raise revenue? Honestly it's like we're turning into some bloody third world country.

You might have meant BAZAAR but on the other hand Bizarre is about right.

WTF is going on in this bloody country? Compulsory saris or burkas for the women and moustaches for the men?

This has been going on for quite some time throughout the NHS. I could take you to several hospitals I know, where the main corridor resembles your bazaar photo. Restaurants serving fine cuisine, wines, cocktails and Cafe Laite within yards of clinics examining patients for rectal cancer. Soiled laundry and bags of medical waste stacked against vending machines... sadly I could go on and on.

I have compromised myself many times on this issue. Do the bureaucrats, medics and nursing professions give a stuff?... do they hell.

Thanks Cato,

That's bloody embarrassing, especially as I've been to the Grand Bazaar a few times.

Harry,

This is the first time I've seen this kind of thing going on. Nearly bought a watch.

Steve, put it down to a Freudian slip.

Due to the noise and filth this sort of activity attracts... many patients end up buying more than a six quid watch.

You can get one of those at the local teaching hospital... as well.
