Even if we are to believe our increasingly discredited scientists, the billions mentioned won't even stop the global temperature rising by at least 2 degrees Celsius. Countries won't bankrupt themselves, or restrict their economic growth in a vain attempt to merely slow down global warming just a little. World leaders have been able to grandstand to their heart's content, safe in the knowledge that their headline grabbing promises would evaporate along with their jet contrails leaving Copenfaken. Job done.
Here are just some of the reactions from the non-governmental attendees:
OXFAM: Copenhagen verdict: Historic moment, historic gathering, historic cop out.
We’re at the end of a two year UN process that has culminated in two weeks of wrangling, posturing and displays of political self-interest by rich nations in Copenhagen. World leaders have produced a hollow deal that has let down people around the world.FRIENDS OF THE EARTH INTERNATIONAL:
Copenhagen has been an abject failure. Justice has not been done. By delaying action, rich countries have condemned millions of the world's poorest people to hunger, suffering and loss of life as climate change accelerates. The blame for this disastrous outcome is squarely on the developed nations.GREENPEACE UK:
The city of Copenhagen is a crime scene tonight, with the guilty men and women fleeing to the airport. There are no targets for carbon cuts and no agreement on a legally binding treaty. It seems there are too few politicians in this world capable of looking beyond the horizon of their own narrow self-interest, let alone caring much for the millions of people who are facing down the threat of climate change. After reading that, it's hard to believe that Gordon Brown has been sporting that fake (and cringe worthy) smile of his on TV telling everyone how great this deal is, and how he is going to save the world all over again.

The real worry here Steve is that David Cameron might see the reaction from the green groups and try to 'out-green' Brown. The cost to us would be stratospheric.
As things stand the agreements made perpetuate the carbon trading 'make money out of thin air' scam and enrich the corporatists. We are paying for this through higher bills and taxes.
Too true Tony,
The only people to lose out on this will be the taxpayers. We will pay more tax so the government can give it away to developing countries. On top of that, energy companies will have to pay more for carbon credits, the cost of which will be met by increased bills for us. It's a pay - pay situation for us and another self glorification opportunity for Gordon Brown.
I hope Cameron is listening.
Copenfaken!
ha ha ha, that's so funny! You crack me up.
oh, wait a minute, no it's not.
I think I'll pack up working so you have to pay more tax. And seeing as we have a child, thinlk of all those family tax credits. And I can have the heating on all day cos that CO2 won't do anything while it's in the atmosphere either. I can just see your face...
Copenhagen has failed. The UN has failed to address the most important crisis in human history. This is now the time for sanctions, boycotts and embargoes. A new alliance is needed. An alliance of hope and peace and justice must be built to oppose the axis of pollution, extinction and self destruction.

Canada Guy - you are having a laugh aren't you? For god's sake where are your brains?
Since I can remember we have been lambasted with one 'global emergency' after another.
In the 1960's we were all going to freeze to death and the planet was doomed.
In the 1970's we really got going with 'pollution' which was going to poison us and the planet was doomed.
In the 1980's hooray here comes the hole in the ozone layer and the planet was doomed unless we got rid of the nasty CF thingys.
The 1990s was good - pollution was back with a bang and we also had this dreadful thing with the Y2K bug - the planet was doomed and the computers were going to explode.
And now we have the Global Warming - oh wait a bit, the planet isn't actually warming but we can pretend that it is, and after all when we talk about 'weather' we don't actually mean 'climate' you know.
For heaven's sake get real and research the Council of Rome - it might shock you!!

Doesn't sound a million miles away from... An alliance of freedom loving democratic nations must be built to oppose the axis of Germany, Italy and Japan.
Copenhagen... Bah... Humbug.
Anonymous... your last comment has totally short-circuited my concept of reality... you have a job?
Wonderful, wonderful, Copenhagen!
What a farce; it brings joy to the heart to read the spectacular cobblers written by FOTE. All those naughty Africans wanting to use tractors to drag themnselves out of subsistance farming might just now be allowed to do so. The alternative is for Mr Brown and the other leaders spending taxpayers money would give £100,000,000 downpayment to Sudan et al 'government to government' which would go straight into Swiss bank accounts! Sir David King, Dr Vicky Pope, Mann, Jones and the rest - let the snow fall deep and crisp and even!
