MPs' expenses - No more free rides
Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker has won an Information Tribunal case to force the House of Commons authorities to publish details of MPs' travel expense claims on Wednesday.
The published figures will give a detailed breakdown of travel expense claims rather than the current combined figure.
Mr Baker said he believed that the public was entitled to know how its money is being spent and that publishing detailed figures would act as a downward pressure on claims, making clear the effect on the environment through the MP's air travel.
MP's had claimed almost £86.8m in expenses and allowances during 2006 an increase of nearly £6m on 2005.
