A poll carried out for The News of the World puts the Conservatives eight points ahead of Labour in the Crewe & Nantwich by-election. This morning David Davis told Andrew Marr: "We have got a 7,000 majority to overturn. "We haven't won a by-election from Labour in 30 years. But we are pulling out all the stops."
Conservatives 45%
Labour 37%
LibDems 14%

I think we're looking at a Conservative win of around 1000 votes. Not a huge majority, ut a valid one nonetheless.
The key will be to look at the Lb Dem/Labour result. If the Libs are ahead, then the PLP is going to go nuclear, that's the one scenario in my mind where Brown would be taken to a darkened room by the suits.
I think Labour will win but it will be so close, I think it will go to a recount, my bother is are we going to get an EU referendum from Cameron if he gets in at the next GE ,I hate the EU ,but would settle for an EEC as it was supposed to be from the yes yes referendum that Wilson foisted upon,us yes I know sailor Heath shoved us in and I hope he's rotting in hell for shafting us.
I don't care about the margin...I just want to see the beeb and nulabour flunkies go into terminal denial on friday....I love the smell of desperation in the morning.
They are certainly pulling out all the stops, and the potential rewards are worth it.
Ewan,
I was considering adding a 1000+ option to the poll as that's what I think the result will be.
However I think it will be closer to 5000 than 1000.
Anon,
We must trust in the Irish, the Lords and the courts.
Thud,
Too right. Anything less than a 5000 majority and they'll be calling it a disapointing result.
LFAT,
The first by-election win against Labour in 30 years will be a great result.
I think Labour will win by an embarrassingly small majority.
Mr Gruff,
I hope not.
