The Conservatives improve their lead by two points, Labour have managed to nick three points from poor old calamity, who's party is polling at a miserable 15%.From the Times:
The change card looks a winner for the Tories. Some 65 per cent say it is time for a change (up 11 points since September last year), while 30 per cent say it is better to stick with the devil you know ( minus 13 points).
The return of Peter Mandelson has made no difference. Just 35 per cent say the reshuffle has renewed and refreshed the Government; 29 per cent say it is stronger; while 63 per cent say shifting ministers “will not change anything- the Government has run out of steam and it is time for a change”.

A good result, and a good moment to conduct the poll, before all the big stuff (of today in particular) skews the results into something virtually meaningless.

Brown drops us all in the shit and could well end up smelling of roses.
John - quite agree. The BBC have been playing to Brown's merry tune all day. If they only knew that he was running around in circles screaming "what do I do?" in between all these 'crisis talks'.
And this poll is good news. It suggests that all Brown's conference speech did was solidify the core Labour voters. I never believed that those 20+ point leads we were getting were accurate, and reckoned some of that amount had to be soft. But it's encouraging that after the best three weeks or so Brown has had in a year (amazingly, considering what is actually going on), we're still on 45%. This suggests a lot fewer soft votes than I had anticipated. And, for the record, our leads in the polls since the Labour conference have been going up steadily - 9-10-12-14-15...
The nightmare scenario is that because of global action we somehow manage to come out of this largely homegrown disaster relatively unscathed, and the stupid British public vote the main culprit back in again.......
Sadly the BBC spinning to his tune makes this a rather likely outcome I'm afraid.
