Gordon Brown is to call for a wartime spirit from the people of Britain in his New Year Speech. Well, Gordon Brown is no Winston Churchill.
Winston Churchill June 4th 1940:
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."
Gordon Brown January 1st 2009:
We shall go on to the end, we shall spend on chance,
we shall spend without cease and go through the motions,
we shall spend with growing incompetence and growing lack of care, we shall bankrupt our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall spend on the leeches,
we shall spend without grounds,
we shall spend on the bankers and bailout the creeps,
we shall spend on the shills;
we shall never stop spending, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were to wake up, then our spin machine, armed and guarded by Fleet street, would carry on the struggle, until, in Gord's good time, the News of the World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the re-election of New Labour."

I can see this happening! It is very well crafted, and I have referenced and linked to it on my own 'blog.
