Quote of the day - Alan Johnson on Swine Flu.

"People will wish to know whether they should wear facemasks"

Alan Johnson MP.

Surprisingly Alan was making a statement to the House of Commons on the Swine Flu outbreak, not MP's expenses.

For anyone considering spending a 100 quid on 20 masks... don't bother. They don't work... purely an anti-panic placebo. Even top of the range used by nursing staff and medics are useless... especially when they become damp from breathing... or you have a hooter like Yasser Arafat that widens the gap at the sides even further.

They ARE effective when placed on the poor soul with the lurgi. Firstly... it stops them generally coughing and sneezing every which way... more importantly... you can see the bastards coming a mile off.

Interestingly the US advice from the CDC for face masks and respirators which focuses mostly on Nursing at home and in hospitals.

The key question is does the govt accept that because one person in a family has the flu - everyone should get it ? Because if the amnswers no then they should provide them.

Of course its too late to order them now. The govt own advice says confidently "there is no evidence that they work" ( not the same as they don't work you'll notice ). And we've already had govt spokespersons tell us how they are unnecessary.

The real question is what will dept of health officials do themselves and with their families?

Not at all... I can order you a few gross of 3M 1873v Health Care Respirator (P3) if you're feeling flush... about as effective as showing a crucifix to a Jewish vampire mind you...

As I said... they do help in preventing victims spreading the disease... and they are even more effective at causing mass hysteria when the whole population suddenly resembles Michael Jackson. SHOCK HORROR: the Govt are telling the truth... probably for the wrong reasons though.

This has always been the problem concerning Spin. When they tell the truth... nobody believes them.

I should imagine... avoid contact with as many people as possible, especially in public places... have the necessary injections and put their name down for a respirator. If that fails... find comfort in the knowledge that far more people die in the UK from inserting a foreign object into a natural orifice, than from AIDS.
