Take a long hard look at the Conservative Party.

"Take a long hard look at the Conservative Party". That's one of the slogans being used by the Labour Party on the run up to the General Election. And I couldn't agree more, I (an ex-Labour voter) took a long hard look and I liked what I discovered. I hope that you will do the same. I could make this post an epic - comparing the Conservatives the the Labour party - but I think all that is necessary is to cover my opinion of Labour is this: Labour governments are excellent at throwing money at problems, but they are worse than incompetent when it comes to managing what the money has been spent on.

So instead of a comparison I'm going to tell you what a Conservative government has to offer (and it is not free laptops I'm afraid).

Here is a clipping from a newspaper advertisement by the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South Ribble, Lorraine Fullbrook:

These are the kind of measures that I, a working man with family to raise and a mortgage to pay, want to see. Added to that, I believe that the Conservatives are the only major party with a chance of winning the election that will protect this country from further EU integration. They are also going in the right direction on the matter of English Votes on English Laws - a subject that is close to the hearts of many Conservative party members.

The Conservatives stand for a smaller, less costly government. Less bureaucracy and interference into our lives - giving us back some of the responsibility that has been taken away from us. Conservatives stand for transparency in government so that we can see how they are going to spend our money. They stand for protecting the NHS budget - even when they will be trying to reduce the massive amount of debt left by the current government. Conservatives believe that the welfare state is there to pick you up when you fall, not support you for life if you can't be bothered to work. They believe marriage should not be penalised by the tax system - and that strong families lead to a stronger society. I could go on and on, but I will leave the rest up to you.

Please take a long hard look at the Conservative Party. I believe they are the party to make this country Great again.

None of the above strikes me as bad, except maybe the NHS, state pensions, free bus passes etc. In my view the Tory Party ought to be advocating an incremental shift toward commercial provision of these services. Incremental so as not to shaft those who have paid into the NI Ponzi scheme all their lives.

The main problem with your list is one of omission.

1) An in/out referendum on membership of the EU.

2) Deep cuts in public spending.

3) A thorough investigation into the motives of climate change proponents and the abandonment of green policies if, as we strongly suspect, it all proves to have been a scam.

Sean,

All things we agree on, but I still believe the Conservative party is the only party heading in that direction. Especially amongst the membership.

Steve,
As a life long Conservative, I agree with what you are saying but I don't agree with what Cameron is saying. I don't want a radical Tory party. I want a traditional Tory party and Cameron is not providing that. He's just Tony Bliar under another name.

Cato,

I know it's a personal matter, and I understand if you don't want to answer, but do you think that you'll still vote Tory at the election?

Steve,
To be perfectly honest, I don't know.

I'd like to vote Tory but they're beginning to be too much like Nulabour for my taste.

I hope fervently that Cameron will say things I want to hear but he's leaving it rather late.

Cato, I'm just scared by the thought of five more years of Brown. I hope people feel the same on the day.

Great post! Wish more stuff like this was out in the public domain - it's exactly what people need to hear!

Thanks Totty,

I really do think that The party should push their transparency policy harder. I for one want to see what my money is being spent on.

I remember your last attempt:

3,000,000+ unemployed

the decimation of manufacturing

selling off anything of value

the massive number of repossessions

black wednesday

"no such thing as society" - and look at us now.

I left school in a mining area in 1984. You can fuck right off. Tories or Labour = same economic policy

Anon,

I don't know if anyone has told you, but you will not be voting in the 1997 election, you will be voting in the 2010 election.

Do you really beleive that the conservaties are going to do all of that? If you do then you must be gullible, all it is, is pre election propaganda, I do not think Labour as saints, I was Labour but for the last three elections voted Conservatie, and I really beleive that Camron is the worst Conservative leader I have heard, unfortunatly the Lib Dems are a no vote, so switching back to Labour, at least they make sense.

Graeme,

"pre election propaganda"

Do you mean like: Free laptops? Dog insurance? Lying about the defence budget? Saying you are against a strike whilst taking millions from the union? Writing letters to David Beckham? putting off cuts and tax increases until after the election?

I will be very surprised if you are not in fact a Labour troll.
