Why Diane Abbott would make a Great Labour Leader

Some people may not take Diane Abbott's decision to stand for the Labour Leadership seriously, but apart from her tongue in cheek appearances on This Week, she is a serious politician. The following videos are of Diane speaking out against her own government's proposal to extend detention without charge to 42 days. Watch and be impressed:

Yes, I remember that, and was quite impressed myself at the time.

As with many of our elected representatives, Diane is a more complex character than those who like quick summaries and soundbites would prefer.

Yes, we have our fun with her during the LiveChats of "This Week" (at the Biased-BBC 'blog), but the lady is actually a lot better, in her best moments, than might be suspected.

Many thanks for putting this up: it is one of the best posts (and a very useful reminder) around at the moment.

Digby Jones mullered her on 'This Week' last night...... (but not in the biblical sense, obviously).

Big battle with John McDonnell's campaign apparently.

Can't be any worse than Broon or Los Millibandos.

Do I detect a slight propensity to 'cross the floor' here Steve, or am I off beam? With all the flamboyance in her gesticulation (left hand), she could replace Marc Elder at the helm of the Halle Orchestra or Sir Simon Rattle of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Very impressive. Would certainly liven up PMQs if she can pull off similar performances

Steve,

Why have you stopped posting? Ok the Tories lost the election but does that mean you don't have an opinion anymore. If you do we would like to hear it!

If Diane Abbott becomes leader of the Labour Party, the Tories will be in power for years.

Is this what you mean?
