Is the Mirror's Paul Routledge threatening Andrew Marr?

I don't know about you, but this sounds like it could be a thinly veiled threat from the Mirror's Paul Routledge to Andrew Marr.

BBC presenter Andrew Marr was out of order, demanding to know, on live TV, whether the Prime Minister is taking anti-depressants – merely on the basis of unsubstantiated internet gossip that had been officially denied.

He has refused to apologise. He should think again – or some scandalmonger might start spreading rumours about his interesting private life, which he guards with the tenacity of a Staffordshire bull terrier.

Superb. Though I believe David still has some way to go to sort out the party, I feel he still stands head and shoulders above Brown when it comes to leadership.

At a time when you would expect Andrew Marr to tear the leader of the opposition "a new one", Cameron comes out of this interview looking statesmanlike.

George Osborne on the Andrew Marr Show - A+ (again).

George Osborne has just appeared on the Andrew Marr Show. Once again he put on an excellent performance, speaking clearly and getting his point out loud and clear. I cannot understand all those fools who feel the need to question his abilities every time we have blip in the polls or Labour trolls start stirring it up. People must remember that Labour have targeted Osborne for a reason, and the reason is that Cameron and Osborne are a great team - both are great in front of camera or an audience.

Alistair Darling has followed him up with the usual waffle - not worth repeating for the thousandth time.

David Cameron on the Andrew Marr Show - Truth on economy not economic with the truth.

David Cameron was on fine form this morning during his interview on the Andrew Marr show (38min 25secs in). I'm sure he is looking forward to answering Brown's Pre-budget report tomorrow morning (I won't pretend it's Darling's). The main point that Cameron got over is that he and the Tory shadow cabinet are telling it as it is. I think a decent slogan for the next election would be:

CONSERVATIVES:

TRUTH ON THE ECONOMY - NOT ECONOMIC WITH THE TRUTH.

Andrew Marr Show - Smooth Mandelson gets rattled.

I enjoyed this weeks edition of the Andrew Marr show. Sophie Raworth filled in for Andrew and did quite a decent job of it. The show as a whole was entertaining but the highlight came right at the end (41 mins in). Sophie was interviewing Lord Mandelson on the current economic strife and smooth old Mandy looked like he had the better of her. However as the interview progressed Sophie gradually turned the screw. By the time Sophie got around to Mandelson's links with the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska he was clearly rattled and quite angry. He demanded that Sophie should produce evidence of any wrong doing on his part and accused her of smearing his good name. Priceless!

Andrew will not be happy with Sophie for treating one of his Labour pals so roughly.

This is your pilot Gordon Brown speaking (re-post).

I posted this back in May when John Prescott came up with a strange analogy to defend Gordon Brown's sullen demeanour on the Andrew Marr show: "When you get on an aeroplane, do you go and look in the cockpit to see if the pilot is smiling". Now Jack Straw has come out with this:

"The question for the country is who is better to take us through this turbulent period? "Is it an experienced pilot and co-pilot in Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling, who have had the experience… or is it two people in David Cameron and George Osborne, who have had no experience of flying a large plane whatsoever?"

So imagine the situation:

Hullo, this is the pilot speaking. We have been informed that our arrival in New York has been delayed. This nothing to do with us, this kind of delay is happening around the world and I'm afraid it's out of my hands. Now, normally this is the point where I would say that there's no need for concern.... but, you see, ah - now how shall I put this? You know that we normally carry enough fuel in reserve for occasions like this? Well erm, we haven't today. Not my fault, you see - we've run out of money. Those fancy new seats you're sitting on cost an absolute fortune and I'm still paying for them. Yes I know they are uncomfortable and the recline function doesn't work, but hey, you've got to admit they look good - at least you'll die in style.

Now here's the rub: we haven't enough fuel to make for another airport, so there is a choice to be made. Do we crash on land or into the sea? I can't decide, I've never been very good at making important decisions. I know that is not an ideal quality when you're looking for a pilot, but I've been pushing to be one for ages and no one else turned up for the interview. So this is what we are going to do. We're going to hold a review. The co-pilot will hand out a questionnaire and we will all vote whether we want to die on the land or in the sea. I can't guarantee we will follow the review's advice, as I believe that on most occasions, I know better. And please note, this is not a referendum - I don't do them.

Please believe me when I say that even though this is all my fault, I believe I'm the best qualified person on this plane to crash it. If you do by some wild chance survive this flight, please understand that I have been listening and learning and I hope you will fly with us again.

This could be one of the best shows Andrew has presented for a good while. I wonder if Andrew brings up Alex Hilton's call on GMTV this morning for Gordon Brown to sort his act out in the next two weeks or go. Tipped has one of Brown's possible replacements, what will Jack Straw say? Either way the show should be enjoyable with such a great group of guests.

Eric Pickles on the Andrew Marr show. We are not worthy.

Eric Pickles reviewed the papers this morning on the Andrew Marr show. Eric should be the face of Conservatism more often. He is definitely the star Tory of the moment, always seeming to have his finger on the pulse and with a good feel for public mood. You can't help liking our Eric.

David Davis on the Andrew Marr Show - 18th May 08

I've just watched David Davis on the Andrew Marr Show. What a brilliant performance. I'm not saying that as a Tory, I'm saying it as an ex-Labour supporter who is becoming more convinced by the day that joining the Conservative party was the right thing to do. The difference between the way David and his fellow shadow cabinet members come across compared to our Labour ministers is glaringly obvious. I believe that Andrew Marr enjoyed this interview and actually bought into David's view of a future Tory government.
