Peter Mandelson now 8/1 to be next Labour leader.

From William Hill:

YOU BET MANDY COULD SUCCEED GORDON BROWN

LORD MANDLESON has been backed from 100/1 to 8/1 fourth favourite with William Hill to become the next leader of the Labour Party. 'When Peter Mandelson was restored to the cabinet by Gordon Brown we offered 100/1 about him becoming the next leader of the Party, but since then he has been consistently backed and his odds have shortened regularly - and following his speech to the Labour Party Conference we expect to take even more for him to succeed Gordon Brown' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills currently make Alan Johnson 6/4 favourite to succceed Gordon Brown, with Harriet Harman and David Miliband 7/1 joint second favourites. Ed Miliband is 10/1, with Jon Cruddas and James Purnell both 12/1.

Gordon Brown is 4/7 with Hills to lead Labour into the next General Election and 5/4 not to. Labour are 14/1 to win the next Election with an overall majority while the Tories are 1/3 favourites and it is 5/2 a Hung Parliament.

No doubt Gordon Brown will not be as happy as some about Mandelson's popular speech.

Who is the biggest Liar - Brown or Mandelson?

After Gordon Brown and his incompetent bunch of ministers were caught out lying to parliament over spending cuts, it seems their preferred method to excuse their disgusting behaviour is to tell more lies. Peter Mandelson has been rolled out to do his "look into my eyes, not around the eyes" routine. There is no lie that Mandelson will not tell - no matter how unbelievable. His latest is to accuse the Tories of trying to create a "false impression" of government spending plans. Can you believe the sheer gall of the man?

Apparently Mandelson told Reuters TV:
"It's easy to take a leaked document, to selectively lift from that figures that are provided by officials but which don't represent ministerial plans."
The Tories did not selectively lift figures from this document - they took the full set of treasury figures that they received - and gave them to the press. And these are official treasury figures, not pie in the sky. And if they don't represent ministerial plans - then can Mandelson tell us what their plans actually are? Gordon Brown has been telling us for months that he will not cut spending, but on Tuesday he said he would cut spending. Then we found out that the treasury plans to cut spending by almost 10%, but now Mandelson is trying to tell us that they are not ministerial plans. Are ministers going to ignore treasury figures? Who or what are we supposed to believe?

One thing is for certain, the public can no longer believe a single word that Brown or his ministers utter.

Labour's outlandish claims over Tory cuts

Nothing is straightforward with Gordon Brown is it? Having to abandon his lies about "Tory cuts vs Labour investment" he now has to have a new nasty little lie. The new one that seems to have been repeated by Labour puppets all afternoon is "Tory slash and burn".

Labour want the public to believe that the Conservatives are determined to destroy the economy at all costs - Schools will be closed, hospitals will be knocked down, millions will be thrown on the dole and sacks full of kittens will be thrown in the canal. What they will fail to mention is that all their nice, fluffy, Labour cuts will be them just cutting out all the socialist crap that they have been wasting our money on.

There are some great lines coming from Labour at the moment. Here are two of my favourites so far:

From the ever nonpartisan The Voice of the Mirror:

Finally Labour is beginning to show some much frankness in how it will deal with the problem [cuts], in marked contrast to the Tories slash-and-burn economic Armageddon.

From Peter Mandelson:

The Tories were "foaming at the mouth with excitement" at the prospect of cuts.

And they expect the voters to believe this rubbish. Have you seen or read any other wild claims that can be added to the list?

Jelly now 2/1 to be used in next Minister attack.

From William Hill:

FOLLOWING the 'green custard' attack on Peter Mandelson, Jelly has emerged as the popular dessert most likely to be next aimed at a Ministerial target, say bookmakers William Hill, who have slashed the odds about that happening from 20/1 to 2/1 favourite.

"After taking several bets for Jelly to be utilised in the next dessert incident directed towards a Minister, we realised just what an adaptable and effective material it is and slashed the odds accordingly. "We will pay out regardless of the flavour used. The bets we have taken are not just for trifling amounts" said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe

When Hills initially opened a book on which popular dessert will next be thrown over any British government minister, they installed Spotted Dick as their 3/1 favourite, but have now lengthened the odds about this perennially popular pud to 5/1.

"British democracy has regularly witnessed examples of harmless substances being directed at controversial politicians to give them their just desserts in the past, and as long as protesters utilise harmless foodstuffs it is only politicians' dignity which is threatened" added Sharpe.

Hills make Ice Cream their 6/1 third favourite to be the next dessert aimed at a top politician during 2009, and also offer 7/1 Rhubarb Fool ;Apple Pie; and Angel Delight; 8/1 Rice Pudding; 9/1 Bread and Butter Pudding; 10/1Custard again;10/1 Sherry Trifle; 12/1 Summer Pudding, 14/1 Semolina.

"If both jelly and, say, ice-cream should be used, dead-heat rules will apply" said Sharpe.

FOLLOWING Mr Mandelson's close encounter with the green custard, William Hill have opened a book on who will be the next Cabinet Minister to be targeted by pud protesters, and make Gordon Brown 3/1 favourite, with Peter Mandelson a 6/1 chance to suffer again before any other Minister does so.

"After the Mandelson custard ambush, Ministers may face an outbreak of pudding flinging - which will at least make a change from mud and insults."

Next Minister to be struck by dessert: 3/1 Gordon Brown; 4/1 Jacqui Smith; 5/1 Harriet Harman; 6/1 Mandelson; 8/1 A Johnson; 9/1 D Miliband; 10/1 E Miliband; 12/1 Y Cooper (Others on request).
I'd pay good money to see Harriet Harman or Jacqui Smith hit with an Asda's lemon meringue (preferably still in the delivery truck).

Gordon Brown's Trojan rocking horse.

I understand that during his interview on the Andrew Marr show this morning, Peter Mandelson said Gordon Brown "works like a Trojan."

Rumour has it, he plays like one too.

Tony Blair 33/1 to appear on Strictly Come Dancing 2009.

From William Hill:

Bookies William Hill have crowned Strictly Come Dancing 2008 as the most popular in the competitions history with almost double the number of bets placed in 2008 compared to 2007. Hills are 6/4 that this is Bruce Forysth's last dance and have cut the price of Tony Blair taking part in 2009 from 100/1 to 33/1 following a run of bets for the former PM.

"This years show has been by far the busiest and the producers owe John Sergeant a bottle of champers. But next year could be a different story as the viewing figures could take a battering if Brucie's decides to hang up his boots and dare I say it surly Tony Blair will be a ratings disaster," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

Will Bruce Forysth Present Strictly In 2009?: 1/2 No, 6/4 Yes

William Hill odds - To Appear on Strictly Come Dancing 2009: 7/4 Peter Mandleson, 11/8 Kelly Brooke, 3/1 Anthea Turner, 3/1 Josh Lewsey, 5/1 Richard Madeley, 6/1 Ben Shephard, 6/1 Sharon Davis, 6/1 Chris Eubank, 8/1 Judy Finnigan, 8/1 Rebecca Addlington, 10/1 Penny Smith, 10/1 Paul Gascoigne, 10/1 Robbie Williams, 12/1 Adam Bolton, 14/1 Cliff Richard, 25/1 Bruce Forsyth, 33/1 Tony Blair, 100/1 Amy Winehouse, 500/1 Prince Harry.

William Hill How Many Of The Strictly Judges Will Be Sacked Before Next Season?: 2/7 None, 5/1 One, 5/1 Two, 16/1 Three, 50/1 All four

Andrew Marr Show - Smooth Mandelson gets rattled.

Peter Mandelson RattledI enjoyed this weeks edition of the Andrew Marr show. Sophie Raworth filled in for Andrew and did quite a decent job of it. The show as a whole was entertaining but the highlight came right at the end (41 mins in). Sophie was interviewing Lord Mandelson on the current economic strife and smooth old Mandy looked like he had the better of her. However as the interview progressed Sophie gradually turned the screw. By the time Sophie got around to Mandelson's links with the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska he was clearly rattled and quite angry. He demanded that Sophie should produce evidence of any wrong doing on his part and accused her of smearing his good name. Priceless!

Andrew will not be happy with Sophie for treating one of his Labour pals so roughly.

Well done Sophie.

Peter Mandelson 8/1 to quit Cabinet by General Election.

More from William Hill:

WILLIAM HILL have cut the odds about Peter Mandelson quitting the cabinet before the General Election from 10/1 to 8/1.

'Punters only want to bet that Mandy's cabinet comeback will be short-lived' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

FOLLOWING his Cabinet re-shuffle, Gordon Brown is now an odds-on chance to lead his Party into the next General Election, with William Hill quoting him at 1/2 to do so, and 6/4 not to. Hills have also lengthened their odds for him to stand down before the end of the year from 4/1 to 5/1.

'Mr Brown has improved his position since the Party Conference and during the financial crisis - but the imminent Glenrothes by-election could prove a looming problem' .

Peter Mandelson - Gordon Browns deadly mistake. Cabinet reshuffle.

Gordon Brown could have just put the final nail in his own coffin by bringing in Peter Mandelson in his latest Cabinet reshuffle. If there was ever a man able to stick the first knife into Brown's back, it's his old enemy Peter. Mandelson was the man who secretly supported Blair, rather than Brown in the Labour party leadership election. Replacing John Hutton as the Business Secretary, Mandelson will provide a major boost for the Conservatives chances in the General Election. He doesn't like Brown and Brown reciprocates those feelings, he's left the cabinet twice already, the first time he jumped (before being pushed), the second time he was sacked (you can find out why HERE).

I just don't get Gordon Brown at all. At a time when he says the country needs stability, he reshuffles his Cabinet with the obvious consequence of upheaval in the decapitated departments. At a time of instability in the party, he brings in someone who doesn't like him and has done the dirty on him once already. At a time when the population are becoming increasing Euro-sceptic, Brown brings in a raving Europhile. After a year of sleaze, he brings in a man who happens to have a very shady past. I think Brown could be a Conservative plant - a man with a mission to destroy the Labour party before 2010.
