Nick Clegg and Chris Huhne let the LibDem leadership battle commence.

The buzz is that this is not going to be a clean fight and that the last man standing will be victorious. We've got until December to find out whether Nick Clegg or Chris Huhne will be the leader of the Liberal Democrat. Unless of course a dark horse steps forward in the next ten days. If the battle between Clegg and Huhne gets too bitter, could an outsider profit from the fallout?

It's a pitty Charles Kennedy has decided not to enter the race, even after receiving literally thousands of emails of support. I personally think he would made the contest a little more interesting. However the "A" word would no doubt dog Kennedy throughout.

Clegg and Huhne are not working class heroes. Both attended Westminster school, Huhne went on to Oxford and Clegg attended Cambridge. Huhne is keen to "lance the boil" of Euro scepticism, while Clegg seems to be attacking Brown and Cameron.

Only time will tell how bloody it's going to get. Watch this space.

Grendel,

It's not the election we were hoping for, but it should be good.
