Conservative laws halt the national rail strike.

Following the High Court’s decision to grant an injunction against a national rail strike, Theresa Villiers, Shadow Transport Secretary, said:

“While Gordon Brown and his weak Government were powerless in the face of growing union militancy, the strike laws passed by the last Conservative Government have brought the country back from the brink of transport meltdown. This unnecessary and irresponsible strike would have been bad for passengers, bad for business and bad for the economy. Now the courts have called a halt to the strike, every effort should be made to negotiate a settlement of this dispute."

Network Rail’s legal challenge against the RMT strike ballot was raise on the grounds that they had ‘manifestly failed to comply with the requirements of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act of 1992'.

BBC accused of racist slur on refinery worker.

This from the Telegraph , is effing disgusting:
The 10 o'clock news bulletin on Monday night carried a voiceover by the BBC's political editor, Nick Robinson, who said : "Beneath the anger, ministers fear, lies straightforward xenophobia." Viewers then heard a worker tell a BBC reporter: "These Portuguese and Eyeties – we can't work alongside of them."

But when the same interview with the same worker was shown on Newsnight later that night, he was quoted more fully, changing the meaning of his words.

Viewers heard the worker state: "These Portuguese and eyeties – we can't work alongside of them: we're segregated from them. They're coming in full companies."

The corporation has been criticised by civil liberties groups, MPs, trade unions and viewers who have lodged complaints.
Aren't the BBC great. When they can't twist words to make them sound racist, they just make it up as they go along.

Britains largest strike since 1926. 2.45% not enough say unions.

Close to 500,000 council workers are striking in response to the government's offer of a 2.45% pay rise. Over the next three days the strike will shut down libraries, museums, nursery schools, the passport office, Land Registry, the Coastguard, the valuation office agency, the immigration office and some ferries. Disrupted services include rubbish collections, driving tests and other town hall services.

There's a lot of discontent out there, and Winter is still months away.
