Gordon Brown - Staying alive, staying alive, ah, ah, ah...

According to the Telegraph Gordon Brown is a big Bee Gees fan. Apparently he listens to their music every day and considers it to be "timeless". The titles of some of their songs may explain a Gordon's mood after his drubbing in the Local Elections:

Another Labour MP blames Brown for 10p tax damage.

The Labour MP for Bolton South-east Dr Brian Iddon blames Brown for 10p tax damage.

From the Bolton News:

"Gordon Brown's been dithering on the 10p tax rate and I think he's given the public the general view now that he's indecisive. However he did go on to defend Brown, Brian Said: "The Prime Minister realises his errors and has told the Parliamentary Labour Party that he's going to improve. "We've only had him in just under a year. And the policies overall are right - 55 per cent of British people benefited from the budget."

But surely Brian, that means 45% are worse off?

Gordon Brown interviews - Andrew Marr and Adam Boulton

This morning Gordon "Mavis" Brown is trying to repair the massive damage he has done to the Labour party. He is facing a "stalking horse" and a Cabinet plot to get rid of him. He's been on the Andrew Marr show (33mins in) already and to be honest Andrew actually stuck it to him for a change. I had to laugh when Gordon said "I feel your pain". He had the cheek to make out that he had it rough during his childhood - what a bare faced lie - the man is from a wealthy family and wouldn't know rough if it punched him in the nose in a Taxi rank. Andrew asked him what new policies he had or which ones he would change to make life better for voters. Gordon had nothing. Nothing but waffle about how great he has been and that he was the right man to lead the country. I think the people have quite clearly stated that they don't share his high opinion of himself.

Brown is now on SKY being interviewed by Adam Boulton and if anything Adam is giving him a harder time than Andrew Marr did. If I hear the "when I get up in the morning" line once more... Oh and the "when I travel around the country". Adam asked Brown if he thought he could beat Cameron in the next election. He said "of course" and then came out with a very unfortunate line: "the people have held a referendum on the government". Not the referendum we really want though is it? Lisbon anyone? Adam did get a little bite out of Gordon when he attacked his Cabinet, saying it was weak when compared to the Tory alternative. You could definitely hear the anger in Brown's voice.

What was Brown thinking when he agreed to these interviews? Did he think he was in for an easy time? Did he think his usual waffle about the last ten years would see him bluff his way through. Brown once again dropped the ball and underestimated the level of scrutiny he would be put under this morning. He had nothing prepared. Nothing.

These interviews will have only spurred on those in his party who now think he is a liability that must be removed.

Plymouth Labour leader blames Gordon Brown.

Plymouth City Labour leader Tudor Evans has blamed his party's defeat on Government policies. Labour lost six seats to the Conservatives. He said the public no longer believed Gordon Brown was on their side, saying:

"I think he needs to make sure that people think he cares about them as much as he does about the captains of industry and the banks and the movers and shakers".

Over on Labour's website, there is a message from Gordon Brown (listen and lead). Unfortunately for Gordon, someone forgot to turn the comments off. He's getting it right in the neck from the (ex) party faithful.

Warning it is not pretty. Here's a small sample:

To late! You won't! You haven't! I used to support Labour......You ignored me and no doubt thousands like me. My wife has just picked up her pay packet and guess what you've been into that. She takes home a miserly £708 per month but you want that.

17:27 With just two councils left to declare the BBC have it like this: Con +252, LAB - 310, LIB +30. However SKY have it like this: Con +294, LAB - 395, LIB +30. Who's right?

18:30 Iain Dale has answered the question of why the BBC and SKY have different results. I had a feeling that SKY were including the new Unitary Authority seats.

18:33 The BBC are saying all the local election votes are in. This could be the final result: Con +256, LAB - 331, LIB +34. A truly terrible day for Labour. In my opinion they deserved every single slap in the face - and more. I'll keep you up to date with SKY's final count which seems to include the Unitary Authority seats.

21:35 It looks to be pretty much over. Boris has almost certainly won and Labour have been demolished. Just like I predicted.

Local Elections - 2 hours to go - Vote Conservative!

You have just less than 2 hours to vote in your local election. Mrs G and I both voted at lunchtime and there looked to be a steady flow into our polling station. I think the general discontent with Gordon Brown and Labour is really energising people to vote. I'll be up all night watching the results come in and blogging as it all happens.
