General Election 2010 - Why you should not vote for Nick Clegg's Lib Dems

Nick Clegg's Lib Dems have received a boost in the polls after the first televised debate between the three main party leaders. I can understand why Nick Clegg came out on top, he had a free hand whilst the two main parties attacked each other, but I hope that people will now take a hard look at his strange policies. It's easy to go on about fairness, but being fair actually requires more than just empty words.

Equality:

The Lib Dems currently have 63 MPs and not a single one of them is black or Asian, and of those 63, only 9 are women. Does that sound like a fair and progressive party? Not only that, but if you look at all the seats where the Lib Dems stand a chance of winning in the Election, not one of their candidates is black or Asian. The Lib Dem party is an all white, mostly male party now, and it will be exactly the same after the Election. Take a look at the picture above - It is the picture at the top of the lib Dem website - and it is a lie. The Lib Dems are the party that is truly stuck in the past when it comes to equality. Defence:

Nick Clegg wants to scrap the replacement for Trident, our Nuclear defence system. Unbelievably he suggests that we don't need a deterrent, or that it could be replaced with a land based system that can be made ready in six months if threatened. We have lived with nuclear threat warnings that have been measured in minutes - now Clegg is asking any aggressor to give us six months warning - is Clegg living on the same planet as the rest of us? It is the nuclear deterrent that has protected this country since the last world war.

Immigration:

On immigration the Lib Dems are all for an amnesty allowing those illegal immigrants already here to stay here. Clegg rejects the Conservative policy to cap the number of people coming here, and he is quite happy for immigration to remain in the hundreds of thousands. It's a pity that he seems to be less than happy to allow newcomers to become Lib Dem MPs. Remember that is highly unlikely that any Lib Dem MPs after this election will be black or Asian, and very few will be women.

Crime:

On Crime Clegg wants to scrap short sentences. This is the kind of wishy washy policy that the Lib Dems are known for. Labour have let us down by letting prisoners out early, the Lib Dems want to go further by not locking them up in the first place. It is this kind of Liberal thinking that has caused our prisons to become more like holiday camps. Whilst the public are crying out for tougher sentencing and harder time, the Lib Dems want to leave criminals free to roam our streets. Do you think the Lib Dems will bring in tougher sentencing, or build more prisons? No, nor do I.



EU:

Don't forget for one minute that the Lib Dems under Nick Clegg voted for the Lisbon Treaty - the Conservatives were the only major party to vote against the Treaty. Now Clegg wants us to join the Euro and integrate further in the EU - he wants us to became part of one big European super state. This former MEP is an out and out Europhile and does not care that most Britons do not want to give away more powers to our EU masters.

There are many more disturbing Lib Dem policies and I urge you to have a good look at them before even considering voting for them. There's a good reason they have been the third party for such a long time, and it is all down to their weird wishy washy policies.

Hypocritical? Atheist Nick Clegg asks for the Christian vote.

How can Nick Clegg, a self professed Atheist, ask Christians to vote for the Lib Dems? What he is basically saying is "I don't believe in your God, or the teachings of Christ, but please vote for me". I don't mind Clegg asking every single person in this country to vote for him, but I find it more than just a little hypocritical to directly appeal to a group that has beliefs that he sees as fantasy. You could watch this video and never know that Clegg does not believe in God.

Too many times has the Lib Dem party at local level carried out dirty campaigns in the hope that the Tories will retaliate, they love nothing better than to be able to shout "look at the nasty Tories". Well things are changing, you Lib Dems can be as dirty as you like, we're not biting anymore. Here is a typical example of Lib Dem dirty campaigning, and how to deal with it.

Four Lib Dem MPs are forced to repay dodgy Second Home rents.

What did Nick Clegg say at his spring conference about Lib Dems being paragons of virtue over the expenses scandal? "So don’t let them tell you we are all the same because it isn’t true."

From the BBC:

Four Lib Dem MPs have been told to apologise and repay money after breaching Commons rules over payments relating to their second homes.

They accepted one-off cash payments from the owners of an apartment block close to Parliament in return for agreeing to pay higher rent levels.

The four are: Richard Yonger-Ross John Barrett, Sandra Gidley, Paul Holmes.

The Lib Dems said their MPs acted promptly to refer their cases while MPs from other parties affected had not.

Let's get this straight: From the BBC report it sounds very much like their Landlord offered these Lib Dem MPs a wad of cash (for them to pocket) if they agreed to an increase in their rent - rent that we are paying for.

Why aren't the Police looking into this? It seems very clear to me that they took a BUNG to allow their landlord to fleece the taxpayer - nice.

Nick Clegg should sack then immediately.

Nick Clegg's coalition fence sitting is damaging democracy

Nick Clegg's reluctance to name the Party he would be prepared to form a coalition with in the event of a hung parliament is a direct threat to democracy. By not coming clean on which party he is willing to work with, Clegg is keeping the public in the dark. We are now going into a General Election with many voters not knowing which party they are actually voting for.

Many Lib Dems will not want to be connected to the Labour Party, and many will not want a coalition with the Conservative party. What Clegg is basically saying is that he will decide (after the election) which party the Lib Dems form a coalition with - not the voters. Don't Lib Dem voters have the right to know who they are voting for? The most likely outcome of a hung parliament would be a Lib/Lab coalition - that is the preferred option for the majority of Lib Dem voters - but nothing is for sure. How do those voters feel about forming a government with the Conservatives? A government run by David Cameron with a few token Lib Dems in the Cabinet?

As long as Nick Clegg sits on the fence, treating Lib Dem supporters like mushrooms*, those same supporters will not know if they are voting for a Labour or Conservative government.

It was Patrick Murray who said:

"Any political party that includes the word 'democratic' in its name, isn't."

Is a vote for Nick Clegg a vote against Christianity?

I find it hard to believe that we have got to such a religious position in this country that the leader (Nick Clegg) of one of our major political parties - and possibly a major player in the next government - could claim to not to believe in God. I'm no Bible thumper, I don't attend Church, but I do believe in God. Even if I didn't, I would still like to think that the potential leader of this predominately Christian country did. Many will say that you don't need to believe in God to know right from wrong, and that is very true, but surely all of our moral standards and laws can trace their roots back to the Bible.

Can you imagine the American public ever voting for a person who claimed that God did not exist? American Presidents sometimes come across as cheesy when they say things like "God bless America" or "I will be praying for the victims", but it is expected of them, and to be honest I like the idea of the President taking a few quiet moments to think about his people.

During Labour's last three governments this country has seen a creeping attack on Christianity. We've all heard the stories of school nativity plays and assemblies being made non-religious so as to not offend minorities. What would be in store for Christianity in this country if the outcome of the next General Election was to be a Lib/Lab coalition? - A coalition of one man who has turned a blind eye to the attack on Christianity, and another who doesn't even believe in it?

So you have to ask yourself before considering voting for Nick Clegg's Lib Dems: Does it matter if the person running the country believes in God?

Nick Clegg - Tax shouldn't be taxing - property tax.

Before we start I should set out my position. I don't own a property worth £1m and I probably never will. I'm not some "Tory Toff" - I'm from a council estate in Barnsley and up until the last four years or so I have been a Labour voter. I have always paid tax as I've never been out of work, and like many, I will probably pay tax for the vast majority of my adult life. Bearing that in mind I want to tell you why I find proposals like the Lib Dem's new "Property Tax" so nauseating.

The rich paying extra tax is "fair". That's what I keep hearing form Labour and Lib Dem MPs - "it's fair that the rich pay more" Why? They already pay more tax than the rest of us so why is it "fair" that they pay even more? Why should the government have more claim on the better-offs money than mine? It's not bloody "fair". Fair is everyone working and paying their way. Fair is everyone paying the same percentage of their wages in tax. Even then, the richer you are, the more you give to Gordon Brown.

Labour and Lib Dem MPs realise it is not "fair", but they know that it is a good way to rake in more money, and they also think it is a vote winner with the public at large. I think they are wrong - the politics of envy are dying. I'm not rich, I'm a married man with for four kids and a mortgage to pay. I don't envy the rich, and I don't think it would be "fair" to see them hammered for more tax just because a bunch of lefties and beardy weirdies think that it is "fair". The well off are entitled to the money they earn like the rest of us. Many of those with £1m homes will have bloody great mortgages to pay (or may even be retired) - and the last thing they will want to hear is some idiot like Clegg telling them that it is "fair" that he's going to take even more of their money.

I'm sorry but saying that it is "fair" to tax someone more because they have worked hard to get a good job makes my blood boil. There is nothing "fair" about it. It's called passing laws to 'legally steal' someones money - knowing that you won't lose too many votes (or might even win some). Thank God the Leftie is a dying breed in this country.

Lib Dems - The real party of change! - What's this? a Tory supporter agreeing with Nick Clegg that his party is the party of change?

No party is changing more than the Lib Dems. In fact - if you watch their conference this week - you will no doubt see their policies changing with the Bournemouth tides. Vince Cable's much celebrated list of cuts announced this week fly in the face of recent Lib Dem promises to spend £6.7bn on childcare and education (see Straight Talk with Andrew Neil). There are rumours about them dropping their "scrap tuition fees" policy, but who knows? Clegg has been quiet for months, but now, he's not calling for those ordinary Conservative cuts, or fluffy union pleasing Labour cuts - oohh no! - he's calling for savage Lib Dem cuts! - the man is an animal I tell yer, grrrrr...

The Lib Dems are changing so much that many supporters may cry "stop I want to get off".

Nick Clegg has got some nerve. We haven't heard a squeak out of him for months and now he pops up to call David Cameron a conman. Apparently Calamity Clegg will accuse the Tory leader of saying anything to win the next election.... no don't laugh - he's serious.

I hear that tonight's Straight Talk (watch now) with Andrew Neil is well worth watching. By all accounts he nails Vince Cable over his party's sudden policy shift from spending on childcare and education. Would that mean the Lib Dems are saying anything to win the next election? surely not.

ComRes Poll - Labour voters can't be Bovvered.

This latest ComRes poll shows that the LibDem gains of a fortnight ago were possibly just a blip in the data. The Conservatives maintain a election winning 16 point lead over Labour (majority of 122).

Mike Smithson over on Political Betting asks whether Labour are being damaged by supporters who aren't certain if they can be arsed to vote. Why 'bovver' going out to vote when a) You are likely to lose anyway, and b) you can sit on you backside watching Jeremy Kyle, smoking ciggies supplied by the taxpayer?

ICM Poll shows Conservatives maintaining winning lead

This latest ICM poll reinforces the gap between the Conservatives and Labour. I think we can definitely say that whatever happens Gordon Brown will not be leading the next government.

Martin Bright says that those approaching Brown are warned not to mention the word legacy. Brown will be feeling immeasurably desperate to ride out this recession before he has to call for an election. Otherwise he knows full well that his legacy is going to that of destroyer of the economy.
