General Election 2010 - Labour's disgusting Party Political Broadcast.
Angry is not the word. This has got to be the dirtiest trick by any party in any General Election held in this country. This is supposed to be a Labour Party Political Broadcast, but in truth it is the lowest form of scaremongering. Whoever OK'd this should be fully ashamed of themselves.

Harriet Harman gets monstered by Stephen Nolan on Radio 5
I've just listened to Radio 5's Stephen Nolan interviewing Harriet Harman - he absolutely monstered her. I've heard some demolition jobs in my time, but this is by far the best. I think Harriet may have gone for a stiff drink and a long lie down after this:

General Election 2010 - David Cameron "Best PM" in Leaders' Debate
The media may be calling last night's leaders' debate a draw between Cameron and Clegg, but there was a clear winner - and it was David Cameron. General Election 2010 - YouGov Tracker poll - Tories back in the lead
General Election 2010 - Conservative Party Armed Forces Manifesto.
Being a great supporter of the Armed Forces (served in the Royal Navy for 16 years) I am very pleased to see the Conservatives (Liam Fox) have launched an Armed Forces Manifesto. Here are some of the key points:
Clear leadership from government. To ensure our personnel have the resources to match their commitments, we will protect the defence budget for 2010-11 and immediately conduct a full Strategic Defence and Security Review, with regular further reviews every four to five years. We will create a National Security Council to which opposition parties will be invited, to build consensus on decision-making. We will maintain a submarine-based nuclear deterrent, based on Trident, to ensure we are protected from nuclear threats in the long term. And we will re-examine the Ministry of Defence (MoD) budget to ensure it is spent wisely.
Equipping our Armed Forces. We will reform procurement to make the system more efficient and ensure that equipment is delivered when our Armed Forces need it at a reasonable cost to the taxpayer. All decisions on defence equipment will be determined by five clear criteria: capability, affordability, adaptability, interoperability, and exportability.
Supporting our servicemen and women. We will establish a tri-Service Military Covenant that will articulate our commitment to the men and women of the Armed Forces. We support our Forces personnel in Afghanistan and remain committed to the necessary operation there, and our strategy will have a clear focus on security and the training of the Afghan National Security Forces. The operational allowance for those serving in Afghanistan will be doubled and we will maximise their rest and recuperation time. We will change the service voting registration rules so Forces personnel do not get disenfranchised due to changes made by Labour, and we will look at changing the law to stop unfair discrimination against personnel.
Supporting our Service families and children. We will work with unit welfare officers and Service charities in providing proper relationship support to our Service families, whom we know can come under huge strain. Service children will get extra support through schools to compensate for the disruptions they experience. And we will provide university and college scholarships for the children of servicemen and women killed on active duty since 1990.
Supporting our veterans. We will offer far better help for Service leavers to settle into civilian life after leaving the Armed Forces. We will establish Britain’s first state-funded post-traumatic stress disorder treatment programme and offer better back-to-work support. We will offer veterans who have undertaken an active tour of service a new route into the teaching profession and we will also pay the university tuition fees of anyone who has undertaken a tour of active service who wants to take a first degree.

General Election 2010 - Over 65s could win election for Tories
21 April 2010: New research out today from Peverel Retirement shows retirees are likely to be the difference between success and failure for the Tories when the UK goes to the polls on 6 May.
A survey conducted by Opinion Matters on behalf of the UK’s leading property retirement company has found 34% of over 65-year-olds, approximately 3.3 million of the population, say they intend to vote for the Conservatives. This figure significantly exceeds support levels for the two main other parties, with only 14% and 13% of the same age group backing Labour and the Liberal Democrats respectively.
With 9.8m people in the UK over 65 (source: ONS), this group accounts for a fifth of the UK’s 46m registered voters (source: Ministry of Justice).
The die is far from cast however. One in five of over 65-year-olds admitted they had yet to pledge allegiance to a particular party, giving Labour and the Lib Dems a bank of floating voters, many who may have been swayed by Nick Clegg’s assured performance in the first national television debate between the leaders last week.
The Peverel Retirement report, named Thinking about the Future, also found the most important policy issue to those aged 65-plus was healthcare and the state of the NHS (69%). This was closely followed by pensioner welfare (including fuel benefits) at 67%. However, politicians’ ideas for getting the economy back on track will only have a major influence on 54% of pensioner votes.
Of the 1,000 retirees asked:
-34% – that’s 3.3 million people – intend to vote Conservative
-14% and 13% intend to vote Labour and the Liberal Democrats respectively
-However, one in five of the over 65s said that they have yet to pledge an allegiance to any political party
-Healthcare and the state of the NHS were rated as top priority issues (69%)
-Only 14% said that inheritance tax proposals would influence their vote
Opinion Matters interviewed 1,007 people aged over 65 between 7-14 April 2010 on behalf of Peverel Retirement.

General Election 2010 - Why you should not vote for Nick Clegg's Lib Dems

Nick Clegg's Lib Dems have received a boost in the polls after the first televised debate between the three main party leaders. I can understand why Nick Clegg came out on top, he had a free hand whilst the two main parties attacked each other, but I hope that people will now take a hard look at his strange policies. It's easy to go on about fairness, but being fair actually requires more than just empty words.
Equality:
The Lib Dems currently have 63 MPs and not a single one of them is black or Asian, and of those 63, only 9 are women. Does that sound like a fair and progressive party? Not only that, but if you look at all the seats where the Lib Dems stand a chance of winning in the Election, not one of their candidates is black or Asian. The Lib Dem party is an all white, mostly male party now, and it will be exactly the same after the Election. Take a look at the picture above - It is the picture at the top of the lib Dem website - and it is a lie. The Lib Dems are the party that is truly stuck in the past when it comes to equality. Click to enlarge the picture to the left if you want to see the real face of the Lib Dems. You may notice that they have packed five women into the top two rows.Defence:
Nick Clegg wants to scrap the replacement for Trident, our Nuclear defence system. Unbelievably he suggests that we don't need a deterrent, or that it could be replaced with a land based system that can be made ready in six months if threatened. We have lived with nuclear threat warnings that have been measured in minutes - now Clegg is asking any aggressor to give us six months warning - is Clegg living on the same planet as the rest of us? It is the nuclear deterrent that has protected this country since the last world war.Immigration:
On immigration the Lib Dems are all for an amnesty allowing those illegal immigrants already here to stay here. Clegg rejects the Conservative policy to cap the number of people coming here, and he is quite happy for immigration to remain in the hundreds of thousands. It's a pity that he seems to be less than happy to allow newcomers to become Lib Dem MPs. Remember that is highly unlikely that any Lib Dem MPs after this election will be black or Asian, and very few will be women.Crime:
On Crime Clegg wants to scrap short sentences. This is the kind of wishy washy policy that the Lib Dems are known for. Labour have let us down by letting prisoners out early, the Lib Dems want to go further by not locking them up in the first place. It is this kind of Liberal thinking that has caused our prisons to become more like holiday camps. Whilst the public are crying out for tougher sentencing and harder time, the Lib Dems want to leave criminals free to roam our streets. Do you think the Lib Dems will bring in tougher sentencing, or build more prisons? No, nor do I.EU:
Don't forget for one minute that the Lib Dems under Nick Clegg voted for the Lisbon Treaty - the Conservatives were the only major party to vote against the Treaty. Now Clegg wants us to join the Euro and integrate further in the EU - he wants us to became part of one big European super state. This former MEP is an out and out Europhile and does not care that most Britons do not want to give away more powers to our EU masters. There are many more disturbing Lib Dem policies and I urge you to have a good look at them before even considering voting for them. There's a good reason they have been the third party for such a long time, and it is all down to their weird wishy washy policies.
