I'm all for an amnesty on illegal immigrants.

Angry though I may be about the number of illegal immigrants (725,000 in 2007) that have managed to get into our country, I do find myself agreeing with Boris Johnson's initiative to have an amnesty.

From the BBC:
The study into the economic impact of an amnesty for illegal immigrants was carried out by the London School of Economics (LSE). It estimates that, if a minimum of five years' residence in the UK were needed to qualify, 450,000 illegal immigrants could be granted amnesty.
This would allow those who are not contributing to the nation to start working and paying taxes. Boris said:

"If it does look as though they could make a contribution to society, we should regularise their status or offer them the chance of regularising their status. "If people are going to be here and we've chronically failed to kick them out it's morally right that they should contribute in their taxes to the rest of society."

It's a mess, but Boris might be able to salvage some good out of a terrible situation.

Labour's immigration policy is a disgrace.

We are overrun with illegal immigrants, the government claim to not have a clue how many there are. We have illegals working in government departments and as security guards all over the country. And yet this government have thought it perfectly acceptable to remove a Ghanaian woman who was being treated here for cancer. Ama Sumani, 39, has died in Ghana because the drugs required to treat her condition were not available in her home country.

Miss Sumani came to the UK on a student Visa but broke its condition when she started work. Campaigners were trying to persuade the government to allow her to return to the UK to continue her treatment. Unfortunately for Miss Sumani and her two orphaned daughters, they failed.

The medical journal The Lancet called the government’s behaviour "atrocious barbarism". I totally agree.

Gordon Brown - Pathetic Scaremonger (annual security assessment).

If you are doing bad in the Polls and the people seem to be turning against you, and if you want to push an unpopular policy on them, there is one tried and tested method to gain their support: scare them. In a couple of weeks Gordon Brown will try to extend the time limit terror suspects can be held without charge to 32 days. So in his first annual assessment to MPs of the security risks facing Britain, Brown will warn of rogue states with Nuclear weapons, terrorists with dirty bombs and electronic war on our computer systems. I find this quite funny because the people of the UK are starting to realise that the biggest threat to their well-being is Gordon Brown himself.

Brown is also going to announce that he wants to set up four regional counter-terrorism units and four regional intelligence units. Just great that is! Just when we are facing a global economic downturn, Gordon wants to set up what will most likely be another multi-million (if not billion) pound set of quangos. The man is an arse. This will obviously mean more power to the state and more intrusion into our everyday lives. No doubt this will be another body that demands access to all of our personal information. We have got to stop expanding government. We need to put the brakes on spending on new state projects and concentrate on getting our current infrastructure working i.e schools and hospitals, maternity wards and transport, energy and immigration.

How a man who is leading the government that opened up our borders to just about anybody and then failed to keep track of them can talk about security is beyond me. The bloke who guarded his bloody car was a illegal immigrant for Christ sake. Not to mention the illegal working on the front desk of the Home Office checking security passes! I don't think this Labour government are intentionally ruining this country, It's just that they haven't got the first clue how to run it. They have redefined the word incompetent.

Illegal immigrant working on security staff at the Home Office.

I'm not sure - is this Jacqui Smith's biggest act of incompetence yet? A few days ago Jacqui claimed that it was the employer's responsibility to check whether their employees are illegal immigrants. Now it turns out that a member of security staff at the Home Office has been arrested for being an illegal immigrant. You could not make it up. I was driving home from work when I heard the news, and I couldn't help laughing.

Jacqui Smith told us that those employing illegal immigrants would be prosecuted, and I have to agree with what David Davis made of this farce:

"Last week the Home Secretary could not go out of her way enough to lay the blame for the SIA shambles at the door of employers. If she is going to try and avoid responsibility in such away she should at least check her own house is in order. Who will the Home Office now prosecute and fine? Itself?"
I've heard that this man was working on the front desk, checking bloody security passes! Jesus H Christ - the bloody Home Office! We need to invent a new word for this government, because the word incompetence does not even approach the pathetic level this bunch of clowns have sunk to.

This government has set itself very low targets, and failed to miserably achieve them.

Jacqui Smith - 11,100 illegal immigrants working in security.

Jacqui Smith has announced in a Commons statement that a least 6,653 (possibly 11,100) illegal immigrants are working security jobs in the UK. Shadow home secretary David Davis said: "Last month we were told that there were 5,000 illegal foreign workers in the security industry. Then it was 10,000. Now it's up to 11,000."

Jacqui is trying to slope the blame onto individual employers saying they should have checked that the people they were employing were eligible to work in the UK. What a load of rubbish! If I were an employer and someone presented me with a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA), I would assume that they had been cleared to work in the UK. To suggest anything else is just ludicrous.

Incompetence is not the word. If every Minister who should resign, was to resign, then Gordon Brown would be very lonely at cabinet meetings.

PMQs - When did Jacqui Smith tell Gordon about the illegal immigrant security failure.

Prime Minister Questions 14 Nov

14 Nov 2007: When did Jacqui Smith tell Gordon Brown about the illegal immigrant security failure? That was the question David Cameron asked the prime minister during PMQs. And the answer is that we may never know because Gordon chose to dodge the question on several occasions. This was a major security breech, and no matter what action Jacqui Smith claims she took, the people should have been informed. If it wasn't a cover up then it was definitely incompetent stewardship of public safety. I seriously hope that this is not going to be swept under the carpet. For one thing, there can't be much room left under there.

Gordon also managed to dodge (twice) the question put by Vincent Cable, of how much money has been lent to Northern Rock and whether he could guarantee that it would be repaid in full, with interest, within the time period of the current parliament. All in all, Brown has done himself and his party no favours today. He failed to answer a perfectly reasonable question on the security of our country. I just wish that the entire nation watched PMQs so they could see first hand what kind of man we have looking after our well-being.

And the one thing that has really wound me up while watching PMQs recently is the need for Labour ministers to sit on the front bench, smirking while the are being exposed as incompetent. What the hell has Jacqui Smith got to smile about?

Gordon Brown says we face terrorist attacks "anywhere from any place."

Gordon Brown says we face terrorist attacks "anywhere from any place." If I were Gordon I would start by looking very closely at my immediate surroundings. The fact that Jacqui Smith revealed to us yesterday that the person assigned to guarding his car was an illegal immigrant should make him a little twitchy. The guard had received security clearance from the Security Industry Authority. You've got to wonder how thorough the SIA's checks are if this person was not even qualified to live in this country. What are the criteria? I would have thought that the first question on any application would be "Are you eligible to work in the UK?" and if the answer is yes then you must provide proof. It's not that hard, is it?

Gordon plans to announce a whole new raft of security measures masterminded by both the security minister Lord West, and the Cabinet secretary, Sir Gus O'Donnell. Lord West's report is to detail ways in which crowed public spaces can be better designed to protect against terrorist attacks. This will include built in security measures for all new public buildings and modifications to existing services such as rail stations, airports, shopping centres and sports stadiums. I think that it fair to say that these measures, while desperately needed, will not stop any future terrorist attack, they will however reduce the number of casualties, and that is the best we can hope for. Lord West told the BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "I started very much on the premise that what we mustn't do is the terrorists' job for them. Yes, there is a great risk, we've got to be vigilant - but we need to make sure we conduct our normal way of life in terms of business, work, pleasure, all these things."

Sir Gus O'Donnell's report looks into the feasibility of whether police and other staff could be included in the new border force, which will protect our ports and airports. The idea is to bring together the Home Office's Border & Immigration Agency, Customs and the UK Visas overseas operation.

This is all well and good. I like Lord West. I like his proposals. I just hope that the government can implement them without turning the whole operation into another money sucking black hole.

Jacqui Smith must love Bird Flu.

Just as Jacqui Smith stood at the dispatch box to explain herself for what looks like a cover-up of the fact that she knew in July that up to 5,000 illegal immigrants have been cleared to work in the security industry, Bird Flu came to the rescue. What a coincidence! DEFRA announced that the Bird Flu outbreak on a Suffolk farm was indeed the deadly H5N1 strain at almost the exact moment Jacqui stood up.

Wow what a stroke of luck for Jacqui. After the Bird Flu announcement Jacqui doesn't even make the front page of the BBC News Website.

Do some people make their own luck?

UPDATE: The Guardian are saying that Jacqui denied a cover-up, saying she did not inform MPs or the public, because the scale of the problem was not clear at that point. Even Prime Minister Gordon Brown - whose car was at one point guarded by an illegal worker - was not initially told of the problem, she revealed.

Is she seriously trying to tell us that Gordon was not informed that an illegal worker was guarding his car? B*ll*x.

For her next trick - Jacqui Smith will spin 5,000 illegal security workers.

Jacqui Smith
This Afternoon at 15:30 Jacqui Smith will make a statement in which she will try to explain (spin) why it was not announced back in July that 5,000 illegal immigrants have been wrongly cleared to work in security. Apparently leaked papers show the home secretary knew about this in July, and David Cameron is claiming that it appears that this has been kept quiet because it was: "going to look bad for the government". You know, he could just be on to something there.

This, if true, shows a complete lack of competence, followed by a complete lack of honesty when the security of our country was at risk. These people have been working for the Metropolitan Police, airports and ports. I'm looking forward to Jacqui's explanation. It's going to have to be a beauty to convince me that the public has not been put in serious danger after an unbelievable cock-up.

According to the BBC, a subsequent Home Office report on 20 August admitted that neither the department nor SIA knew the extent of the problem. The report went on to say that the Home Office press office continued to "recommend strongly" that no public statement be made, and that any announcement "would not be presented by the media as a positive story".

So are we looking at a cock-up cover-up? Let's see what Jacqui Smith has to say at 15:30.......
