England's Riots - Minette Marrin warned us in 2008

This article is from 2008, we can't say we weren't warned:

I read an excellent article from Minette Marrin on Sunday and I forgot to post a link to it. Minette's story covers something that troubles a growing number of the population - violent children:

For all the billions of pounds thrown by Labour at poverty and education, there is now a critical mass of savage, unsocialised boys and girls who make life dangerous and miserable for themselves and others.

ComRes Poll - Labour move towards third party status.

Another good poll for the Lib Dems sees them only 3 points behind Labour. The jungle drums will be beating around Westminster for the next few days.

How can Labour possibly hope to win an election if things get worse and they are pushed into third place in the polls?

Are you ready for a snap election?

Hamas care about the citizens of Gaza?

Many wrongs have been perpetrated by both sides in the build up to the current conflict in Gaza. However, Hamas are to blame for the climbing body count reported over the last 24 hours.

I have young children. If I take them for a walk in our local park and we happen to come across a large dog, I do not poke that dog with a sharp stick. For one thing, that dog will almost certainly attack me, another is there's a good chance my children will get bitten in the process.

Hamas are firing rockets into Israel, knowing full well that the retaliation will be costly for the people they are supposed to represent. When Israel started its air offensive to stop the rocket attacks, Hamas continued to fire rockets. When Israel massed its army on the border, Hamas continued to fire rockets. Now that Israeli troops have entered Gaza, Hamas continue to fire rockets. It's like me continuing to poke that dog with my sharp stick after it has already savaged two of my kids. Worse still, by placing their rocket sites near civilians, Hamas are poking the dog whilst holding their children in front of them.

It may seem like I'm taking sides with Israel on this, but I'm not. Both sides have committed wrongs in the past, but it is a fact that if Hamas had stopped firing its rockets last week, a lot of people would be alive today.

You cannot poke a angry dog with a sharp stick and expect to get away with it.

Vote: United States of America or United States of Europe?

My mind went a-wondering today. I was thinking about the possible Chinese intervention into the HBOS saga (I have a few shares) and I wondered how people would feel about what would be China's largest UK acquisition to date? I don't like the idea of China owning a major UK bank - I don't know why - it just doesn't seem right. That got me wondering about how I would feel if an American bank was to take over HBOS instead, and I realised that I wouldn't be as concerned. With more EU controversy today over the Court of Auditors failing to approve the European Union's accounts for the 14th year on the trot, I began to wonder whether people would prefer to become the 51st State of America, or the continue to be one of the 27 States of Europe?

Obviously this is just a bit of fun. If you had to make the choice, which one would you choose?

Which United States would you prefer to be a member of?

Boris Johnson agrees partnership with Mayor Bloomberg.

Could the partnership deal that Boris has entered into with his New York counterpart Michael Bloomberg be the beginning of a new, bright future for London? Bloomberg's record as the man who gets it right in New York is well known. Any advice Boris takes from his new American partner will no doubt benefit the residents of London.

Boris has definitely hit the ground running.
