Our Troops, Fighting for democracy - yet unable to vote?

Angry is not the bloody word! As an ex-serviceman I cannot believe for one minute that it is not possible for every single one of our service men and women to vote if they so wish. We could fly out postal vote forms to them tomorrow - they could be returned within a week. That this has not been seen as a priority is an absolute sodding disgrace.

From the Times online:
Electoral law stipulates that postal votes cannot be issued until the close of nominations 11 days before election date. They must be returned to constituencies by the close of polling to be valid.
So what? Gordon Brown can fly out to Afghanistan and back in no time when he needs to cynically use our troops as a photo op backdrop. 11 Days is more than enough time to get the electoral vote forms out to the troops and back to their respective constituencies. Andrew Murrison, a shadow defence minister, said:
“The blame for the collapse in the number of service personnel registered to vote can be put at the government’s door.

“It is bizarre and wrong that soldiers who have put their lives on the line for Afghan democracy are left without a vote in their own homeland.”

Another Conservative MP, who has a large garrison town in his constituency, said: “Labour has made it harder and harder for soldiers to vote. It may be incompetence, but it could be knavery.”
It becomes clear why Labour are not sorting the mess out when you look at the results of a recent poll carried out by the British Army Rumour Service website found that 57% would vote Tory, and only 7% would vote Labour.

If our Labour government have no intention of helping our Armed Forces vote, then the service heads need to get this sorted - and bloody quick.

BA Strike: This is your Pilot Gordon Brown Speaking.

Imagine if Gordon was your pilot:

Hullo, this is your pilot Gordon Brown speaking. We have been informed that our arrival in New York has been delayed. This nothing to do with us, this kind of delay is happening around the world and I'm afraid it's out of my hands. Now, normally this is the point where I would say that there's no need for concern.... but, you see, ah - now how shall I put this? You know how we normally carry enough fuel in reserve for occasions like this? Well erm.... we haven't today. Not my fault, you see - we've run out of money. Those fancy new seats you're sitting on cost an absolute fortune and I'm still paying for them. Yes I know they are uncomfortable and the recline function doesn't work, but hey, you've got to admit, they do look good and spending on seats has gone up in reals terms every year for the last ten years.

Now here's the rub: because we haven't enough fuel to make for another airport, there is a choice to be made. Do we crash on land or into the sea? I can't decide, I've never been very good at making important decisions. I know that is not an ideal quality when you're looking for a pilot, but I've been pushing to be one for ages and no one else turned up for the interview. So this is what we are going to do. Because the cabin staff are on strike, my co-pilot Alistair will come amongst you and take your votes for a forced landing on land or sea. And please note, this is not a referendum - I don't do them - because that is the right thing to do.

So please understand that even though you may think that I got us into this terrible situation, I believe I'm the best qualified person on this plane to crash it. If you do by some wild chance survive this flight, be assured that I have been listening and learning and I hope you will fly with us again. In the mean time, I will be getting on with the job.

Good luck (smiles).

Conservatives ask Gordon Brown to stand up to his Unite paymasters.

Commenting on the news that talks aimed at averting a strike at BA have collapsed, Shadow Transport Secretary, Theresa Villiers said:
"Labour's union paymasters at Unite are determined to inflict travel misery on thousands of families. It is disgraceful that they are going ahead with this unnecessary strike.

“Gordon Brown should do all he can to urge Unite – who are funding his general election campaign – to call off the strike. Or he should stop taking their money.

“Britain now faces Labour’s Spring of discontent with militant unions threatening to bring our railways to a standstill as well. Strike action could leave the country facing a serious transport meltdown.”
Just like the last time we had a Labour government - They left the country skint and in the grip of the Unions. Why do we keep falling for socialism?

Liam Fox renews his call for Gordon Brown to reappear at Chilcot.

We all knew that Gordon Brown was lying to the Chilcot enquiry, I think they even knew, but he went on to repeat his lies in the house of commons. Brown lied to the enquiry, he lied to the parliament and he lied to us. Now that he has had to admit that he lied, Liam Fox has repeated his call for Brown to be dragged back to the enquiry to explain himself. Though how he will explain cutting the defence budget four times while our troops were engaged in several wars is beyond me.

Commenting on his second letter to Sir John Chilcot, renewing his call for the Prime Minister to return to the Iraq Inquiry, Shadow Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox said:
“We’ve had three former defence chiefs, a former Defence Secretary and a former Permanent Secretary say that the defence budget was under enormous pressure as we went to war. Yet the Prime Minister tried to insist that defence spending had risen consistently in real terms so they had everything they needed.

“Now we know that he misled the Inquiry, as well as repeating his false claims to Parliament, the Armed Forces and their families. He must explain why he wilfully repeated false information.

“I wrote to Sir John on the 8th of March to ask that Gordon Brown be recalled to the Iraq Inquiry; his reply indicated that that option had not been ruled out. I have today written to him again to say that yesterday’s admission adds considerable weight to the case for the Prime Minister to be recalled. There can be no excuse to avoid it.”
What Gordon Brown has done is unforgivable, and he has shown beyond doubt that he is unfit to be our Prime Minister.

General Election Poster: No10 - Under New Management.

During yesterday's PMQs, Gordon Brown refused to give his backing to those British Airways staff who want to work during the upcoming Unite strikes. We have also discovered that some No10 staff are fully paid by the Unite Union. Add this to the massive donations given to Gordon Brown's Labour party, the campaign machine set up in marginal seats, and the number of Unite members standing as Labour MPs, it seems pretty obvious that No10 Downing Street is under new management.

Gordon Brown is nothing but Charlie Whelan's puppet.

Unite donates to Labour against the wishes of its members.

The Unite Union's backing of the Labour party has come under some real scrutiny following their decision to strike over the BA situation. How can Gordon Brown act in the best interest of the country if his party has taken £11m in donations from the Union that is causing so much disruption?

A poll carried out by Populus this time last year shows that the majority of Unite's membership are actually NOT supporters of the Labour party. So why are Unite donating so much of their members' money to Labour? Here are some fascinating results from the poll:
66% of Unite members would not vote Labour if a General Election was called today

Only 32% of Unite members believe that the Labour party share their values

Only 25% of Unite members believe that the Labour party leadership is honest and principled

Only 30% of Unite members believe that the Labour party leadership is competent and capable

Only 27% of Unite members believe that Gordon Brown is the right person to lead Britain forward after the next general election (Cameron 37%)

58% of Unite members think that Gordon Brown is bad for them and their families

58% of Unite members think that Gordon Brown is not up to the job of being Prime Minister

Only 36% of Unite members believe that it was right for the union to donate £500,000 to Labour in the last three months.

Only 31% of Unite members believe that it is right for the union to donate any further large donations to the Labour party.

59% of Unite members describe themselves as “moving away from the Labour party”
So I ask again: why are Unite donating their members money to the Labour party? Hardly democratic is it?

Liam Fox: Gordon Brown must be recalled to Chilcot Inquiry

Calling for Gordon Brown to be recalled to clarify his evidence to the Chilcot Inquiry, Shadow Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox said:
"Today I have written to Sir John Chilcot to ask that Gordon Brown is recalled to the inquiry to clarify his evidence. There have been so many other witnesses whose evidence directly contradicted his, concluding with Bill Jeffrey today, that there is a clear case for questioning Gordon Brown again.”
Here is the text of the letter sent to Sir John:
‘Since Gordon Brown’s session last Friday (5 March 2010) two former Chiefs of the Defence Staff (Admiral Lord Boyce and General Lord Guthrie) and a former Chief of the General Staff ( General Sir Richard Dannatt), all highly respected men of great integrity, have made public statements completely contrary to, and directly challenging, what Gordon Brown said during his session regarding resourcing and equipping our Armed Forces.

‘There is a strong case for you to recall Gordon Brown for further testimony in front of your inquiry after the upcoming General Election.

‘I fully understand why you do not want your inquiry to be involved with party politics but I do think that it is important to get the truth in this matter even if this cannot happen until after the election.’
What are the chances of the lying sod being dragged back to Chilcot before the election? If Gordon the liar Brown has anything to do with it, I would say the chances are zero.

New 2010 General Election Poster. Gordon Brown, More faces than Big Ben.

Gordon Brown sunk to a new lows this week (if that is possible). Calling our Generals liars over Defence funding is a disgrace, but to then fly out to Afghanistan for a photo op with the troops is beneath contempt. I hope the people get rid of this despicable man.

Poster: Gordon Brown denies knowledge of his secret £50,000 slush fund.

Gordon Brown was caught on the hop in today's PMQ's when he was asked to explain why he had not declared his secret £50,000 personal slush fund. Unbelievably he said: ‘I know nothing about what he [the questioner] is talking about.’ He might as well have said "I take the Fifth!". I don't know about you, but it reminded me of Manuel from Fawlty Towers.

Who is the biggest Liar - Brown or Mandelson?

After Gordon Brown and his incompetent bunch of ministers were caught out lying to parliament over spending cuts, it seems their preferred method to excuse their disgusting behaviour is to tell more lies. Peter Mandelson has been rolled out to do his "look into my eyes, not around the eyes" routine. There is no lie that Mandelson will not tell - no matter how unbelievable. His latest is to accuse the Tories of trying to create a "false impression" of government spending plans. Can you believe the sheer gall of the man?

Apparently Mandelson told Reuters TV:
"It's easy to take a leaked document, to selectively lift from that figures that are provided by officials but which don't represent ministerial plans."
The Tories did not selectively lift figures from this document - they took the full set of treasury figures that they received - and gave them to the press. And these are official treasury figures, not pie in the sky. And if they don't represent ministerial plans - then can Mandelson tell us what their plans actually are? Gordon Brown has been telling us for months that he will not cut spending, but on Tuesday he said he would cut spending. Then we found out that the treasury plans to cut spending by almost 10%, but now Mandelson is trying to tell us that they are not ministerial plans. Are ministers going to ignore treasury figures? Who or what are we supposed to believe?

One thing is for certain, the public can no longer believe a single word that Brown or his ministers utter.

Gordon Brown - More faces than Big Ben.

Click to enlarge. (Yes I know the bell is Big Ben)

Tom Harris MP bans anyone from calling Gordon Brown a liar.

Tom Harris is banning anyone from calling Gordon Brown a liar on his blog. Truly effing pathetic:
JOHN Rentoul makes a good point about the Tories’/Spectator’s latest childish tactic of calling everyone they disagree with a liar. "Vulgar abuse", John calls it, and he’s right.

I’ve been adopting far too liberal an approach to comment approval, even where the Tory liar line has been used, so I’m announcing a review. All existing comments which accuse anyone of lying will be deleted, and no future comments which do the same will be approved.

Use parliamentary protocol, people – there are ways of getting your point across without resort to childish name-calling.

Feckin’ eejits.
Here is my comment on this:
The dishonesty tag is working because it is true. And it hurts. Is there any point coming back here? What else will you ban? Is any criticism of Brown to be banned next? the government after that? then any criticism of the Labour party?

This is Labour all over, if you don’t like it you ban it, change the law, or just have those involved arrested on trumped up charges if all else fails.

You don’t get it, and that’s why you are going to lose, and BAD.
Labour: if they don't like it, or if the truth causes embarrassment, they ban it. Tom, you just don't get blogging do you?

Update: If you think that I'm jumping to conclusions about Tom banning the word liar from his blog, then please read the comments on this post for my explanation.

The Liar tag is sticking to Gordon Brown and Labour do not like it. When people think of Gordon Brown, the word Liar now springs to mind. Labour will move heaven and earth to change that. Here's a top tip for Labour MPs/members/supporters: Get Gordon to stop lying.

Gordon Brown, wanted for Financial Incompetence.

Gordon Brown's spending lies are not fooling voters.

I wrote yesterday that Gordon Brown was totally and utterly delusional if he thought that we would believe his "Tory cuts" lies. I also wrote that his legacy would be one of being a bloody liar.

Well it looks like I was right to believe that the people would not fall for Labour's lies this time. As soon as Brown came out with his false statement about increased Labour spending at PMQs last week, the blogosphere and the MSM were all over him. Yet still the fool has continued to spew out the same rubbish during the last week.

PoliticsHome has carried out a nationwide survey asking those taking part to name the party they feel are most honest about their tax and spending plans.

From PoliticsHome:

Labour failed to score an overall majority even with their own supporters; only forty eight per cent of Labour party supporters believe they are the party that is most honest about their spending and tax intentions. In contrast, the Tories and Lib Dems were both backed by eighty two per cent of their supporters.

The government's rhetoric on tax and spending has failed to convince independent voters. Only six per cent feel they are most honest, whereas thirty three per cent chose the Conservatives and twenty three per cent the Liberal Democrats.

I think that these results are pretty conclusive. Lets hope Brown keeps up the lies - they are obviously doing Labour more damage than the Tories.
