David Cameron's Conservative pledge to Pensioners

Following increasing reports of Labour and Lib Dem leaflets that are spreading lies about how a Conservative government would cut pensioner support, David Cameron is making this pensioner pledge:

"The Government I lead will make sure that older and retired people are treated with dignity and given the quality of life they deserve. This is my pledge to support pensioners.

My Government will:

 Increase the value of the basic state pension for all pensioners and help to stop the spread of the means test by linking pensions to earnings. You won’t get a repeat of Labour’s mean 75p rise with us.

 Freeze council tax for the next two years, in partnership with your council.

 Make it worthwhile to save for a personal pension and get rid of the rules that force people to get a compulsory annuity.

 Help people protect their home rather than have to sell it to pay for care.

 Take all family homes worth less than £1 million out of inheritance tax.

 Increase spending on the NHS every year, which is our number one priority.

 Cut paperwork so we get more police out on the beat fighting crime.

Our opponents are trying to scare older people by telling deliberate lies about our plans. So here is a personal promise, from me, about the things we will protect.

 I will protect your Winter Fuel Payment.

 I will protect your free bus pass and your free TV licence.

 I will protect the pension credit.

These vital benefits will not be cut under the Conservatives. You have my word on it.

If he wins the election, Gordon Brown wants to introduce a number of measures which will hit pensioners: A Conservative Government will not penalise pensioners, as Labour are planning to do:

 We will NOT introduce a ‘death tax’ of up to £50,000.

 We will NOT cut attendance allowance and disability allowance for the over 65s.

We can afford to make these pledges because we have found the money from other areas, like cutting government waste and bringing forward the date at which the state pension age will rise to 66.”

High Court Rules against the Labour's third runway at Heathrow

Following the High Court Ruling against the Labour Government’s decision to build a third runway at Heathrow, Theresa Villiers, Shadow Transport Secretary, said:

"Labour's flagship transport policy is in complete disarray. This judgement is a damning indictment of Labour's wholly misguided support for a third runway. It is proof that they cannot be trusted to safeguard our environment and that the whole handling of this hugely important issue has been riddled with incompetence and duplicity. They must drop their support for a third runway now.

“There will be a clear choice at the general election between five more years of Gordon Brown and his exhausted Labour Government or change with the Conservatives who will stop this runway from being built. Today’s news shows that the Conservatives made the right judgement and Labour got it wrong.”

Our Troops, Fighting for democracy - yet unable to vote?

Angry is not the bloody word! As an ex-serviceman I cannot believe for one minute that it is not possible for every single one of our service men and women to vote if they so wish. We could fly out postal vote forms to them tomorrow - they could be returned within a week. That this has not been seen as a priority is an absolute sodding disgrace.

From the Times online:

Electoral law stipulates that postal votes cannot be issued until the close of nominations 11 days before election date. They must be returned to constituencies by the close of polling to be valid.

So what? Gordon Brown can fly out to Afghanistan and back in no time when he needs to cynically use our troops as a photo op backdrop. 11 Days is more than enough time to get the electoral vote forms out to the troops and back to their respective constituencies. Andrew Murrison, a shadow defence minister, said:

“The blame for the collapse in the number of service personnel registered to vote can be put at the government’s door.

“It is bizarre and wrong that soldiers who have put their lives on the line for Afghan democracy are left without a vote in their own homeland.”

Another Conservative MP, who has a large garrison town in his constituency, said: “Labour has made it harder and harder for soldiers to vote. It may be incompetence, but it could be knavery.”

It becomes clear why Labour are not sorting the mess out when you look at the results of a recent poll carried out by the British Army Rumour Service website found that 57% would vote Tory, and only 7% would vote Labour.

If our Labour government have no intention of helping our Armed Forces vote, then the service heads need to get this sorted - and bloody quick.

BA Strike: This is your Pilot Gordon Brown Speaking.

Imagine if Gordon was your pilot:

Hullo, this is your pilot Gordon Brown speaking. We have been informed that our arrival in New York has been delayed. This nothing to do with us, this kind of delay is happening around the world and I'm afraid it's out of my hands. Now, normally this is the point where I would say that there's no need for concern.... but, you see, ah - now how shall I put this? You know how we normally carry enough fuel in reserve for occasions like this? Well erm.... we haven't today. Not my fault, you see - we've run out of money. Those fancy new seats you're sitting on cost an absolute fortune and I'm still paying for them. Yes I know they are uncomfortable and the recline function doesn't work, but hey, you've got to admit, they do look good and spending on seats has gone up in reals terms every year for the last ten years.

Now here's the rub: because we haven't enough fuel to make for another airport, there is a choice to be made. Do we crash on land or into the sea? I can't decide, I've never been very good at making important decisions. I know that is not an ideal quality when you're looking for a pilot, but I've been pushing to be one for ages and no one else turned up for the interview. So this is what we are going to do. Because the cabin staff are on strike, my co-pilot Alistair will come amongst you and take your votes for a forced landing on land or sea. And please note, this is not a referendum - I don't do them - because that is the right thing to do.

So please understand that even though you may think that I got us into this terrible situation, I believe I'm the best qualified person on this plane to crash it. If you do by some wild chance survive this flight, be assured that I have been listening and learning and I hope you will fly with us again. In the mean time, I will be getting on with the job.

"Take a long hard look at the Conservative Party". That's one of the slogans being used by the Labour Party on the run up to the General Election. And I couldn't agree more, I (an ex-Labour voter) took a long hard look and I liked what I discovered. I hope that you will do the same. I could make this post an epic - comparing the Conservatives the the Labour party - but I think all that is necessary is to cover my opinion of Labour is this: Labour governments are excellent at throwing money at problems, but they are worse than incompetent when it comes to managing what the money has been spent on.

So instead of a comparison I'm going to tell you what a Conservative government has to offer (and it is not free laptops I'm afraid).

These are the kind of measures that I, a working man with family to raise and a mortgage to pay, want to see. Added to that, I believe that the Conservatives are the only major party with a chance of winning the election that will protect this country from further EU integration. They are also going in the right direction on the matter of English Votes on English Laws - a subject that is close to the hearts of many Conservative party members.

The Conservatives stand for a smaller, less costly government. Less bureaucracy and interference into our lives - giving us back some of the responsibility that has been taken away from us. Conservatives stand for transparency in government so that we can see how they are going to spend our money. They stand for protecting the NHS budget - even when they will be trying to reduce the massive amount of debt left by the current government. Conservatives believe that the welfare state is there to pick you up when you fall, not support you for life if you can't be bothered to work. They believe marriage should not be penalised by the tax system - and that strong families lead to a stronger society. I could go on and on, but I will leave the rest up to you.

Please take a long hard look at the Conservative Party. I believe they are the party to make this country Great again.

Conservatives ask Gordon Brown to stand up to his Unite paymasters.

Commenting on the news that talks aimed at averting a strike at BA have collapsed, Shadow Transport Secretary, Theresa Villiers said:

"Labour's union paymasters at Unite are determined to inflict travel misery on thousands of families. It is disgraceful that they are going ahead with this unnecessary strike.

“Gordon Brown should do all he can to urge Unite – who are funding his general election campaign – to call off the strike. Or he should stop taking their money.

“Britain now faces Labour’s Spring of discontent with militant unions threatening to bring our railways to a standstill as well. Strike action could leave the country facing a serious transport meltdown.”

Just like the last time we had a Labour government - They left the country skint and in the grip of the Unions. Why do we keep falling for socialism?

Four Lib Dem MPs are forced to repay dodgy Second Home rents.

What did Nick Clegg say at his spring conference about Lib Dems being paragons of virtue over the expenses scandal? "So don’t let them tell you we are all the same because it isn’t true."

Four Lib Dem MPs have been told to apologise and repay money after breaching Commons rules over payments relating to their second homes.

They accepted one-off cash payments from the owners of an apartment block close to Parliament in return for agreeing to pay higher rent levels.

The four are: Richard Yonger-Ross John Barrett, Sandra Gidley, Paul Holmes.

The Lib Dems said their MPs acted promptly to refer their cases while MPs from other parties affected had not.

Let's get this straight: From the BBC report it sounds very much like their Landlord offered these Lib Dem MPs a wad of cash (for them to pocket) if they agreed to an increase in their rent - rent that we are paying for.

Why aren't the Police looking into this? It seems very clear to me that they took a BUNG to allow their landlord to fleece the taxpayer - nice.

Nick Clegg should sack then immediately.

This is not new, but still worth a giggle.

Liam Fox renews his call for Gordon Brown to reappear at Chilcot.

We all knew that Gordon Brown was lying to the Chilcot enquiry, I think they even knew, but he went on to repeat his lies in the house of commons. Brown lied to the enquiry, he lied to the parliament and he lied to us. Now that he has had to admit that he lied, Liam Fox has repeated his call for Brown to be dragged back to the enquiry to explain himself. Though how he will explain cutting the defence budget four times while our troops were engaged in several wars is beyond me.

Commenting on his second letter to Sir John Chilcot, renewing his call for the Prime Minister to return to the Iraq Inquiry, Shadow Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox said:

“We’ve had three former defence chiefs, a former Defence Secretary and a former Permanent Secretary say that the defence budget was under enormous pressure as we went to war. Yet the Prime Minister tried to insist that defence spending had risen consistently in real terms so they had everything they needed.

“Now we know that he misled the Inquiry, as well as repeating his false claims to Parliament, the Armed Forces and their families. He must explain why he wilfully repeated false information.

“I wrote to Sir John on the 8th of March to ask that Gordon Brown be recalled to the Iraq Inquiry; his reply indicated that that option had not been ruled out. I have today written to him again to say that yesterday’s admission adds considerable weight to the case for the Prime Minister to be recalled. There can be no excuse to avoid it.”

What Gordon Brown has done is unforgivable, and he has shown beyond doubt that he is unfit to be our Prime Minister.

During yesterday's PMQs, Gordon Brown refused to give his backing to those British Airways staff who want to work during the upcoming Unite strikes. We have also discovered that some No10 staff are fully paid by the Unite Union. Add this to the massive donations given to Gordon Brown's Labour party, the campaign machine set up in marginal seats, and the number of Unite members standing as Labour MPs, it seems pretty obvious that No10 Downing Street is under new management.

The Unite Union's backing of the Labour party has come under some real scrutiny following their decision to strike over the BA situation. How can Gordon Brown act in the best interest of the country if his party has taken £11m in donations from the Union that is causing so much disruption?

A poll carried out by Populus this time last year shows that the majority of Unite's membership are actually NOT supporters of the Labour party. So why are Unite donating so much of their members' money to Labour? Here are some fascinating results from the poll:

Nick Clegg's coalition fence sitting is damaging democracy

Nick Clegg's reluctance to name the Party he would be prepared to form a coalition with in the event of a hung parliament is a direct threat to democracy. By not coming clean on which party he is willing to work with, Clegg is keeping the public in the dark. We are now going into a General Election with many voters not knowing which party they are actually voting for.

Many Lib Dems will not want to be connected to the Labour Party, and many will not want a coalition with the Conservative party. What Clegg is basically saying is that he will decide (after the election) which party the Lib Dems form a coalition with - not the voters. Don't Lib Dem voters have the right to know who they are voting for? The most likely outcome of a hung parliament would be a Lib/Lab coalition - that is the preferred option for the majority of Lib Dem voters - but nothing is for sure. How do those voters feel about forming a government with the Conservatives? A government run by David Cameron with a few token Lib Dems in the Cabinet?

As long as Nick Clegg sits on the fence, treating Lib Dem supporters like mushrooms*, those same supporters will not know if they are voting for a Labour or Conservative government.

It was Patrick Murray who said:

"Any political party that includes the word 'democratic' in its name, isn't."

Andy McNab: Who Dares, Wins - Gordon Brown: Who Lies, Spins.

Former SAS Hero, Andy McNab, has come out in support of the Conservative Party. A former Labour supporter, Andy has turned his back on Gordon Brown and Labour after the PM lied to the Chilcot enquiry - only to then fly straight out to Afghanistan for a photo-op with our troops.

Andy told The Sun:

"For Gordon Brown to go to the Iraq inquiry and tell porkies was outrageous.

"How little he has given the MoD to help them fight five wars in 13 years is VERY clearly on record.

"To then go straight out to Helmand province in Afghanistan - as he did - and pose for photos with the troops to look like the Forces' friend was unforgivable. That was the last straw for me.

"It was a cynical PR attempt to bury bad headlines. Anyone who uses our soldiers on the front line like that deserves nobody's respect.

"It is a betrayal of everything honourable they stand for."

"After the way Gordon Brown betrayed the Forces, there's not a single person I've spoken to from my old regiment who's voting any other way than Conservative.

The war hero sounded a call to arms - warning Britain: "How you vote at this election is going to affect soldiers' lives."

A message from David Cameron: Our country needs a change of course

I've just been out on my first ever canvassing session and I loved it. I can't believe how many people were willing to talk about both local and national politics. I've been left feeling a lot more positive about winning in May (if I do get selected as the Conservative Candidate) and I can't wait to get out there and do it all again. Anyway, talking about national politics, here is David Cameron with a great message for the future:

Not satisfied with launching a new General Election slogan which is a rip off of both the Labour and Conservative slogans, the Lib Dems have managed to sink even lower in a pathetic attempt to hide their all white shame. SHOCKER! Labour's biggest backer Unite to Strike - Gordon Brown says nothing.

Commenting on the decision by Labour’s biggest financial backer, the Unite union, to hold strikes at BA later this month, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury Philip Hammond said:

“These strikes will cause misery for millions of travellers but the Government is looking the other way. Maybe it’s because Gordon Brown’s spin doctor is channelling millions from the striking union into Labour’s election coffers. Once again, the Prime Minister is putting his own narrow political interests of above those of the British people.”

The Prime Minister’s spokeswoman this morning refused to condemn the strikes:

"The Prime Minister would not want to comment on individual strikes. We hope a negotiated settlement is reached so that people do not have to go on strike. The Prime Minister has good relations with all the unions."

That's nice.

Now we have the truth. Our Generals have said that Gordon Brown cut defence spending, a former head of the MOD said that Gordon Brown had cut defence spending. The only person claiming that Gordon Brown did not cut defence spending - is Gordon Brown himself. And guess what? Gordon is lying again. Here is a video made by the "fact check" team at C4 News:

Don't forget that these cuts took place while our troops were fighting two wars.

Liam Fox: Pleased Chilcot has not ruled out recalling Gordon brown.

Commenting on Sir John Chilcot’s response to his letter asking for Brown to be recalled to the Iraq Inquiry, Shadow Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox said:

“I am pleased that Sir John Chilcot has not ruled out recalling the Prime Minister to the Iraq Inquiry. In line with his Chilcot appearance last week, this week we have repeatedly seen disingenuous Brown dissembling again.

“He told David Cameron yesterday that “on defence, the right hon. Gentleman cannot deny the fact that the budget is rising every year in real terms”, and this morning he repeated this claim on BFBS. Yet we now know that this is not true. Gordon Brown has been caught out using fantasy defence figures.

“Not only should Gordon Brown return to the Chilcot Inquiry, he must also apologise for misleading Parliament, and above all for misleading the Armed Forces.”

William Hague: Britain at risk from five more years of Gordon Brown

In his speech today, William Hague said:

“Our ability to undertake economic modernisation will be critical to Britain’s future influence. When capital, labour and technology are increasingly mobile we cannot stand still. That is why James Dyson’s report about how we can give more weight to science and technology in our economy is so welcome. That is why our proposals on business taxation are oriented towards attracting and maintaining investment, why our programme of education reform explicitly draws from best practice across the globe, from Alberta to Sweden to Singapore, to ensure we make the most of every young person’s talent in the future.

“But the change, the modernisation, our economy needs is not guaranteed. If our opponents’ mistaken arguments and mistaken principles prevailed Britain will move backwards towards a ’70s style model, with a bigger say for the trade unions who want to impose rigidity and unaffordable regulation across the public and private sector. The bridge will be drawn up against innovation and investment.

“The dominant current within Labour is no longer the outward-looking thinking of the late 1990s, but an explicitly old-fashioned Left approach. The clearest example is that the Labour Party candidates who are being selected are not the figures of distinction from outside the traditional Labour tent whom Tony Blair sought to win, but hardened union activists with a track record in resisting modernisation: Five more years of Gordon Brown would mean that this country would be associated across the world with risky and unaffordable debt, lack of discipline over spending and trade union power.

“The Prime Minister spoke this morning about the economy. Gordon Brown is right - the economy is at a crossroads. We could continue with five more years of his debt, waste and taxes. Councils furious at Gordon Brown's £250m Social Care Burden.

At a time when Councils are trying to help their residents out by keeping council tax bills down (my local Conservative council has frozen it), Gordon Brown wants to saddle them with a £250m burden to pay for extra social care. If Gordon Brown wants this scheme to happen, then why isn't he funding it, instead of passing the burden onto local councils? Inevitably we will pay for this scheme through our council tax.

During DCLG Parliamentary questions today, Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Caroline Spelman confronted the Government further over their social care scheme, accusing Ministers of Living in “cloud cuckoo Land”

“Councils are "feeling furious" after being warned they could have to contribute GBP250 million towards a free home care scheme for the elderly, Tories said today.

“Shadow communities secretary Caroline Spelman said ministers must be living in "cloud cuckoo land" if they did not believe this was an "unfunded burden".

“Last month Gordon Brown unveiled plans to provide 400,000 vulnerable elderly people with free personal care in their homes, at an annual cost of GBP670 million.

“Some GBP420 million of this would be funded by the Department of Health while the rest would be met by local authorities. But council leaders have warned that the Personal Care at Home Bill would increase the strain on an already overburdened social services system.

“During Commons question time, Mrs Spelman asked: "Can you understand why councils are feeling so furious after being instructed to meet a GBP250 million shortfall in the Prime Minister's latest commitment to personal care?

"Given the Government defines a new burden as any new policy or initiative which increases the cost of providing local authority services, can you explain which part of that GBP250 million is not covered by that doctrine?”

Nick Herbert: Labour's Dangerous dogs proposal will penalise millions of dog owners

I don't like Labour's idea to force everyone to insure their dogs against attacking people. For one thing it punishes the many for the stupidity of the few - typical Labour really. And for another, how are those on low incomes and pensioners going to afford this insurance? Are Labour actually saying that only "well off" people are allowed to have dogs? For some OAP's a dog is the only company they have.

Commenting on the publication of DEFRA’s consultation on dangerous dogs, Shadow Environment Secretary Nick Herbert, said:

"The problem of dangerous dogs is growing and the current legislation is clearly not working, but the Government's proposals risk penalising millions of law-abiding dog owners with the blunt instrument of a dog tax. We should be targeting the minority of irresponsible dog owners, not the vast majority who are responsible dog lovers. And we need to legislate carefully, not in haste, so that we don’t repeat the mistakes of the infamously flawed Dangerous Dogs Act.

Conservatives and many others have been calling for action to deal with dangerous dogs for years, and we are pleased that the Government has finally woken up to the problem. But we question why they have taken so long and are announcing these plans just weeks before the election is called"

The truth about all this is that Labour have had thirteen years to find a solution to this growing problem, and only now (weeks before a General Election) are they doing something about it. Electioneering?

Liam Fox: Gordon Brown must be recalled to Chilcot Inquiry

Calling for Gordon Brown to be recalled to clarify his evidence to the Chilcot Inquiry, Shadow Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox said:

"Today I have written to Sir John Chilcot to ask that Gordon Brown is recalled to the inquiry to clarify his evidence. There have been so many other witnesses whose evidence directly contradicted his, concluding with Bill Jeffrey today, that there is a clear case for questioning Gordon Brown again.”

Here is the text of the letter sent to Sir John:

‘Since Gordon Brown’s session last Friday (5 March 2010) two former Chiefs of the Defence Staff (Admiral Lord Boyce and General Lord Guthrie) and a former Chief of the General Staff ( General Sir Richard Dannatt), all highly respected men of great integrity, have made public statements completely contrary to, and directly challenging, what Gordon Brown said during his session regarding resourcing and equipping our Armed Forces.

‘There is a strong case for you to recall Gordon Brown for further testimony in front of your inquiry after the upcoming General Election.

‘I fully understand why you do not want your inquiry to be involved with party politics but I do think that it is important to get the truth in this matter even if this cannot happen until after the election.’

What are the chances of the lying sod being dragged back to Chilcot before the election? If Gordon the liar Brown has anything to do with it, I would say the chances are zero.

New 2010 General Election Poster. Gordon Brown, More faces than Big Ben.

Gordon Brown sunk to a new lows this week (if that is possible). Calling our Generals liars over Defence funding is a disgrace, but to then fly out to Afghanistan for a photo op with the troops is beneath contempt. I hope the people get rid of this despicable man.

Vote: Would English votes on English laws encourage you to vote Tory?

I've always been in favour of English votes on English Laws (EVoEL), and to some extent so has the Conservative Party. They see why the current system is flawed against the English, but their proposal for a English Grand Committee does not go far enough for some. This is how it works (I think): All MPs can vote on the first, second AND third readings of England-only laws. However, on the third reading, parties would be stopped from using Scottish votes to block amendments made by English MPs. This is not a perfect solution but it is a damn sight more than Gordon Brown would ever offer.

I will be voting Conservative whether or not they go all the way and introduce EVoEL because the Tories are the only party heading in the right direction on this matter. The same can be said over the EU, I desperately wanted a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty (the one Labour promised and then refused to hold), but I'm willing to vote for the only Eurosceptic party that has a chance of winning the General Election.

It is important that the Conservative party gets their strategy right on these policies. We are in the position (for now) of looking at a hung parliament or a small majority (more likely), but if we can convince the those in favour of EVoEL and UKIP to change their minds then we should see a decent number of seats. I would like to see David Cameron passionately reinforce
his stated position on the EU, and I would like to see EVoEL adopted as part of the manifesto - even if it is just a promise to introduce it within the first three years of the next parliament.

I cannot understand why EVoEL is made out to be a complicated solution. In my mind it is simple: Any vote that is unique to England should only be voted on by English MPs, it can't be that hard to arrange surely? Just a small note on the coming week's list of votes. Maybe "EMPsO" next to the vote would suffice. We must encourage people, who are generally natural Tory voters to do so at the upcoming General Election - especially as Labour and the Lib Dems are secretly planning to form a coalition that will keep the Tories out of (and themselves in) power for ever.

Gordon Brown, tough on crime? - my backside.

I can't believe that Gordon Brown is now taking notice of crime in this country after not being at all bothered in the past. Actually I can believe it, seeing as were just weeks away from a General Election. And isn't it funny that after letting tens of thousands of prisoners out of prison early, he now says he's going to stop that just before the election. What we need, but what he will not offer, is the extra prison places we have needed desperately for years.

People have been attacked, murdered and raped by the dangerous people Labour let out of prison early - all because Gordon Brown would not commit to building prisons. He was happy to waste billions on I.D cards and numerous other failed I.T projects, but he wasn't happy to build the prisons that were needed to keep people safe.

The figures of crime may have fallen, but in real life we know what the true situation is - crime is on the up - but people are becoming desensitised and don't bother to report it.
